SEIZED BY BANK RO33KRS.
| OMtiier Relieved of Hi* Effect*, but
a Time Lock Seved the Safe.
Great Falls, N. H., Dec. 14.—A bold
pttempt to rob the Great Fell* National
Bank was made last night. About 6 o'clock
Ajnstant Cashier Buffum started the time
lock and went borne. Cashier Stieknep re
mained, talking with a man about a busi
ness matter. After this man bad departed,
Mr. Suekney closed the vault door, ticked
the grating door and started to leave the
building. In the entry he was grabbed by
two men, one of whom put a pi<tol to his
a-sad and threatened to kill him if he made
fcn outcry.
WASTED HIM TO OPEN THE VAULT.
They took him inside the bank and asked
him \{he would open the vault. Mr. Stick
ney explained that the time lock was on it
and it would be impossible to open the
rault until morning. The robbers, satisfied
that this was true, concluded not to wait.
They “went through" Mr. Stickney, how
ever, taking his sdoo watch and $3 in
tnonev. On his promise that he would not
move for ten minutes they unbound their
victim and departed. Mr. Stickney is quite
an old man, and is prostrated.
A BANKER TAKES WINGS.
Ei* Depositors Poor People, Whose
Account* Ran from $3 to S2O.
Baltimore, Dec. 14.—John H. Rauch,
Jr., who has for some time past conducted
* savings bank in the eastern section of this
efty, is reported to have disapjieared. The
depositors in the bank were composed
mainly of poor persons, and the average
amounts were from $3 to S2O.
This evening was the regular time for the
establishment to be open for business,
and a large crowd was in attendance,
but the place was closed. An alarm was
given that Rauch had skipped,
and the crowd became excited and demon
strative, Lut found no one on whom to vent
it* wrath. Rauch, in addition to his bank
ing business, conducted a feed store, but
failed several days ago, and |bis place is
advertised for sale. Several of the de
positors stated to-night that Rauch had a
regulation that any child who w.s a patron
of the bank was liable to a small fine if a
deposit was not made weekly.

two Bridges W ashed Away by a Rise
of the Waters.
Johsstown. Pa, Dec. 14.—The heavy
rains of the past twenty-four hours have
raised the rivers to an alarming highL At
8:45 o’clock this afternoon the bridge across
the Couemaugh at Wood vale was washed
•way. At 5 o’clock this afternoon the Lin
coln street bridge was carried away, shut
ting off communication between Johnstown
*7ia the Pennsylvania railroad station.
Aside from this do other considerable
damage has been done, although
at one tune the water was run
ning down Washington street, completely
surrounding the Cambria Iron company’s
works and the Western Union telegraph
office. No lives were lost. The water at 8
O'clock to-night was falling rapidly, and
no furthr danger is apprehended. Work
will be commenced Monday on a substantial
new bridge, to take the place of the temp

Catarrh
Is a constitutional and not a local disease
and therefore it cannot be cured by local ap>
plications. It requires a constitutional rem
edy like Hood’s Sarsaparilla, which, working
through the blood, eradicates the impurity
which causes and promotes the disease, and
Catarrh
effects a permanent cure. Thousands of
people testily to the success of Hood’s Sarsa
parilla as a remedy for catarrh when other
preparations had failed. Hood’s Sarsaparilla
also builds up the whole system, and makes
you feel renewed In health and strength.

being erected daily. Substantial materials are
just as requisite to the modest as to the most
extensive builder. The bouse owner must watch
his architect, architect his contractor, con
tractor his laborers. Superficial structures can
entail loss of life ana property. DOORS,
SASHES, AND BLINDS are important items,
so is the PAINT, the PLASTER, the everything
connected with a building. The moral is plain:
