GEORGIA THRIFT. Tho real estate transfer* at Amsricui last week aggregated f 40,0X1. Efforts will be made to erect a guano fac tory in Arlington in t-e near future. Wise & Aris will move their blacking and polish plant from Fort Payne to Talla poo A The exchange bank of Washington has SIOO,OOO of Wilkes county mosey deposited with it. The statement of County Treasu-er Wood shows Stewart to be in a better financial condition than usual. W. F. Morse, representing the Engle Cremators- Furnace Company, of New York city, is in Brunswick, trying to have a crematory put in by that city. Printup City is to have anew hotel of fifty ro ins. The lumbar has arrived and work will begin at once. The hotel will be completed in about furty days. The Coweta Fertilizer Company has been running night and day for two or three weeks past, and is so n u.r up with its w rk now that all orders for guauo can be filled as soon as received. The Hayden building, on the corner of Alabama and Forsyt 1 streets at Atlanta, has just be j n sold for $46,000. Maddox, Rucker & Cos. were the buyers, and Z. D. and George W. Harrison the sellers. The board of di ectors of the Merchants’ National Bank of Rome have elected R h:rt J. Gwaltney assistant cashier. It i-. under stood that be will accept the position, which will probably necessitate the closing of the East Rome male academy about April 1. Chattanooga capitalists have an option till April 10 on the property of the East Rome Land Company. The option cov ers 2,500 acres of suburban property in East Rome, and includes Lakeview park, which is l eached by a dummy line, that is also owned by the land company. Cordeie’s water wo ks bonds have ar rived. The design consists of a turpentine scene. The trees are cut and men are draw ing the turpentine from the boxes. On the right hand corner of the picture is a water tower. The bonds were purchased by W. W. Collins of Macon at par. Some time ago the people of Terrell county voted on the question of issuing bonds to build anew C 'Urt house. Those who opposed the project were successful and carried the day. Now it is suggested that the block, or a part of it, on which the court house standL be divided into business lots and sold. It is believed that the lots would bring money enough to build anew and modern court house without involving ttie c uuty in debt. One gentleman says be would give $3,000 for sixty feot front on the corner of Leo and Main streets. Rome Tribune: A mountain on Taylor’s ridge in Chattooga county has been found to contain a dept sit of kaolin of the purest white and perfeclyt free from grit and any coloring whatever. Tne deposit is several miles in length, and only about three miles from the railroad. The side of the moun tain is said to be nearly all kaolin. The discovery was made a woek ago, and speci mens were at o ce mailed to N. H. Bass of this city. Mr. Bass saw at once that they were of the purest quality, and sect some of t: em to the celebrated china potteries of Haviland. An opinion has not been re ceived from there as yet, but an answer is expected every day. When asked about the kaolin bed, Mr. Bass said there was no doubt of it being the very purest quality, and entirely free fr m any sub stance that will prevent the manufac ture of the very finest chiua. Taylor’s Ridge is only a few miles from Rome, and potteries for the production of a very fin^, quality of china are likely to be established there or at this place at au early date. , The Atlanta car works already have more orders than they can fill. A big order bad to be declined because the cars we e wanted within ninety days. Orders for street cars are in, and before the summer is over Atlanta mi do cars wiil be on the streets of the city. The company is pre pared to make either horse, dummy, or electric cars equal to any in America, or Europe either, for that matter. One iu ?[uiry shows the tremendous volume < f the ruit and truck bu6ine-s done iu Georgia. A transportation company in the southern part of the state wants 800 to 1,000 re frigerator cars. Here alone is an invest ment of $750,000 to move the fruit and vegetable crop, not to sneak of the ventila tors the Georgia road will put on to move watermelons. Patrick Calhoun says the Central and other lines he is interested in will largely increase their rolling stock and general facilities. Such ad inand for cars was never bef re known in the history of the country. The railroads, not being able to get cars made as fast as they need them, have largely listed the cars if outside corporations known as car trusts, paying a moderate mile ge in order to handle busi ne.-s for which tneir own rolling stock was not adequate. GEORGIA POLITICS. Congressman Crisp has declared himself not a candidate for governor. A state temperance con vention has been called to meet in Atlanta on May 8. Tnomasville thinks that Southwest Geor gia has always heretofore been slighted in the division of high office in the state, and. therefore, nominates Judge A. H. Hansell of that place as the man to succeed Gov. (lordoo. It is stated that Hon. A. T. Mclntyre, Jr., will stand for re-election as representative from Triomas county, and that A. R. Jones of ThomasviUe would be a candidate for senator from the Seventh senatorial dis trict, c imposed of Brooks, Colquitt, ami Thomas counties. One of my customers, a highly respected and influential citizen, bnt who is now absent from the city, has used Swift’s Specific with excellent result.
