Editor Morning News: If it is deemed
impracticable to place a lamp on Jefferson
between Gwinnett aikd Anderson and
tValdburg and Huntingdon, I would sug
gest that the lamp at the corner of Mont
gomery and Huntingdon streets be placed in
the middle or at the intersection of the
streets, or as a matter of economy, dispense
with the lamp at Jefferson and Gwinnett,
Waidburg and Montgomery, and West
Broad and Bolton streets and al
low the tower at Bolton and
Montgomery streets to illuminate
the district south of Gaston and west of
Barnard street. With proper street cross
ings on Jefferson, Montgomery and West
Broad streets, the taxpayers would readily
consent to pave their sidewalks. With
these actual necessities accomplished, I do
not think the taxpayers in this section for
the present would object if tbo committee
on streets and lanes soould farther continue
their w ork of beautifying the parks aud
squares. If the present administration will
not recognize this portion of the town in
making the improvements demanded, the
citizens cau only resort to combining the
first and second districts, thus selecting
proper representation in council to look
after their interest and provide for their
wants, now very much neglected.
