as to tho feasibility of raising capital at the

them on certain classes of goods in the last

pay the interest upon a heavy mortgige

this l a is me linally to say that in this con

winch I published in the Morning News
live or ,-ix years ago, is the ouly one that is
now, m my judgment, feasible for 1 uilding
a factory so that the stockholders,
and not bondholders, will own it.
Should e inauguiate an association hero
for raising the money for a factory upon
that plan, 1 will give my time and moans to
a tnu north and east for the purpose of
raising all the money which can be obtained
there. That such enterprises are of the
greatest importance to our city at
this time there can be no possi
ble doubt, and we should not
quibble about their exact location. If they
happen to strike sections where we are in
terested, so much the better for us, but if
they do not, the general effect will help us,
and above all help our city. We ought to
have a p pulation of 1100,000 —the business
of Savannah warrants it—and all we need
do to acquire it is to exercise a iittle public
spirit.
Every ordinary loan and building asso
ciation running 500 shares payable $5 per
month accumulates a capi al of $500,000.
Such an association can be organized, and
in twelve months we would have $30,000.
This will form the basis of credit upou
which tlio mill could be built, and the debt
incurred for that purpose would be paid off
monthly from the installmen s on the stock
mid the proiits of the mill. When paid off
tho stockholders would own the mill, and
nut a lot o. bondholders.

A REWARD OFFERED.
Gov. Fleming has offered a reward of
#2OO for the arrest of the negro Joseph
Young, who murdered D. EX Grifflu near
Ellaville on Aug. 11.
The colored state farmers’ alliance and
consolidated union was in session here Mon
day and Tuesday. K. M. Humphrey (white),
president of their national organization,
was in attendance upon the meeting. There
was a large attendanceof delegate', and they
transacted their business in a quiet and
orderly manner.
A NEGRO TICKET.
There is a whispered rumor that the negro
politicians have in view the making of a
county ticket headed i y w hite men hereto
fore affiliated with tee democrats, thinking
by ttiis means to draw from the strength of
the straight democratic ticket. They tried this
game iu 1888, and in consequence, for the
tir-t time in many years. Peon county
rolled up a big democratic majority'. One
of the men who bolted and Went with the
negroes then ha* again knelt at the demo
cratic altra and sworn perpetual allegiance.
It is not believed that the negroes can get
any respectable white man to run on their
ticket this year.
THE NEW RAILWAY.
An active canvass of the county is being
made this week to induce property holders
to take stock in the newly incorporated
Tallahassee Northern railway.
Gov. Fleming has made the following ap
pointments: M. F, Lnugbmac to bo com
missioner of deeds for Florida in New York,
John M. Bethel of Key West to be notary
public for Monroe county, and Charles
Benedict to be councilman for ward five of
Jacksonville.
Fire at Lumpkin.
Lumpkin, Aug. 27. —Yesterday morning
at 1:30 o’clock the alarm of tire was given.
The small building about thirty feet south
of T. A. Shelton’s store was discovered to
be on fire. By hard work other buildings
were saved. The building was used as an
eating house by Alf Morrill (colored), and it
is supposed the fire came from the stove.
Florida’s Metropolis.
Jacksonville, Fla., Aug. 27.—The cor
ner-stone of the McTyelre memorial church
(Methodist) was laid this afternoon with ap
propriate ceremonies. Graud Master Long
