THE THEATRICAL SEASON.
'McCarthy's Mishaps” Eooked for
Next Mocday Night.
Mana -erT. F. Johnson of tbe Savannah
Theater saya that the prospects for a suc
cessful theatrical season were never so
bright as this year. 8o far there have been
booked none but the beet line of companies,
and the theater has been engaged for 125
nights. The season opens Monday night,
f?ept. 8, with “McCarthy’s Mishaps,' 1 a
rearing Irish farce, which was received
with such popular favor here last season
and which kept tbe audience in a roar dur
ing the play by the many comical mishaps
of McCarty.
Pre3B notices are not necessary to intro
duce “McCarthy’s Mishaps” in this city, as
theater-goers know that a treat is in store
for them, and the huuse will be crowded.
The Sioux City Journal says: “The fun
reached the hilarity point and staid there
all the time ‘McCarthy’s Mishap*’ were
passed in review. The farce is not vary
edifying, perhaps, but it is full of rollicking
fun, and no diagram is reeded to show
where the laugh eomes in.”
The popular comedy “A Tin Soldier” is
booked for the theater next Tuesday night.
The Boston Ideal Opera Company is
booked for tbe theater Sept. 12 and 13.
Dancers are more in demand nowadays
than they have been in years. Pro mieres
like Cornalba. Qaalitz and Paris command
something like 4 15tJ a week- Carmoncila,
who is the metropolitan hit at Roster &
Bi d’s, weekly takes pa three hundred simo
leons. Dancers like Ida Heath, Kate Sey
mour, Lillian Kamsden, Emily Vivian,
have salaries ranging from $75 to SIOO a
week. Staccioue, the sidft .and incer, who
will trip around “Tde liiwUsr” this season,
passes the hundred limit. Good specialty
dancers are very scarce. Barney Fagin,
one of the best authorities cn the subject,
says that most women have aptitude for
dancing but are lazy. Tote Du Crow, an
other authority, says that women confine
themselves to one dance, and never learn a
new dance more than once in five years.
Edwin Booth has earned $250,000 by his
acting during the three last years.
Another of Lawrence Barrett's daughters
will shortly be married. The prospective
groom is Marshal 8. P. Williams of Rox
bury, Mass.
Mai. Charles Rice of “McCarthy’s Mis
haps” has purchased Leopold Jordan’s new
co edy, “ lopsy-Turvy.”
W. A. Brady’s “Bottom of the Bea” was
produced for the first time in Bridgeport,
Conn., on Monday night. It was a great
success. The compauy was callsd before
the curtain six times after the close of the
performance.
“The Runaway Wife” will b@ produced
this seasou with Frank Evan* in the title
role, under the management of Parker &
Lotto.
James Meade and the entire "Bluebeard
Jr.” Company have arrived in Chicigo and
are rehearsing. "Bluebeard Jr.” is to fol
low “Tbe Crystal Slipper” at the Chicago
opera house.
Dunlap's Stage News says: Maj. Charles
E. Rice’s tour of "McCarthy’s Mishaps”
began at Asbury park, Aug. 14. The clever
skit has been improved since it was last
seen, and premises to lie even a greater
money winner than it was last season.
