Felton and iverett Men on Their Met
tle—Floyd County Politics.
Rome, Ga., Sept. 25. —Never in the his
tory of the “bl iody Seventh” did there
xist such exciting times, politically, as just
low. The most interest centers about the
egislative race, it being nearest to hand.
Floyd county is the stronghold of the inde
pendent "Jeffersonian” party of the Sev
mth district. Turney, Bryan and Seay
itand for “Jeffersonianism”; Corput,
Whatley and Johnson for the regular
iemocracy.
It ,a thought that a defeat of the “Jeffs”
n the legislative race will be a death blow
their party. If. however, they win, it
will inspire them with an enthusiasm that
vill make the congressional race interest-
Bg.
No one can with safety predict the out
line in the legislative race. The opinion
fa non-partisan yesterday was: “ft will
® c ‘ ose i but the chances are for the regular
fcmoerrtic ticket.”

ustrict have aroused the Everett men to

‘‘PRINCE’ BUSSELL ANNOYED.
A Joke of Dtgby Bell's That Hs Did
Not Appreciate.
Digby Bell, th comedian of the Duff
Opera Company, playing in “lolanthe’’ at
the Chicago auditorium, was the innocent
perpetrator of a huge joke Monday night,
says a Chicago special. The joke was none
tbe less enjoyable from the fact that only a
few persons were in a position to appreciate
it fully. Among tbe audience were “Prince”
Russell Harrison, son of the present incum
bent of the white house, and Geu. Palmer,
president of the world's fair national com
mission, the two gentlemen occupying a
Evate box. There were not many in the
j theater who knew the distinguished
visitors.
In the course of the evening Mr. Bell,
who is the highly susceptible caancellor of
the opera, Las a sort of “patter’'song to
sing. Mr. Bell is given liberty to “impro
vise” upon Gilbert and Sullivan’s libretto,
and he interpolates verse* and “gags”
which would make the author of “lolanthe”
turn green with envy. In the Lord Chan
cellor’* song he adds several of these verses.
One particular ve ae was especially inter
esting to the gentlemen in the private box
before mentioned. It is well known that
Digby Bell is a most uncompromising
democrat, and that be should introduce a
quiet shot at the present national adminis
t ation is by no means surprising. Never
theless the friends of “Priao ” Russell may
fancy h’s feelings as the comedian sang
these lines:
‘ "The President said a vacation he'd take;
Said he to himself, said he,
Down by the blue sea, where the high breakers
break.
Said he to himself, said he;
For the place needs the boom that my presence
will bring.
And my friends who belong to the real estate
ring
Have promised a cottage, to which I shall cling.
Said he to himself, said he.”
Of course, the verse was greeted with a
round of laughter and applause, but Gen.
Palmer and his companion in the box did
not join in it. The world’s fair president
turned very red in the face and looked side
ways at “Prince” Russell. The litter
thoughtfully coughed, scratched his head
behind his ear, and then mopped his mas
sive brow with a silk handkerchief. The
Lord Chancellor on the stage, little dream
ing that he was singing to Benny’s own son,
continued his merrymaking, and the opera
proceeded without "further troublesome in
cidents.
GEORGIA FARM3.
LaGrange Graphic: The oldest inhabitant
cannot remember when cotton opened as
rapidly as it is this season. The fields keeps
white all the time, notwithstanding the
efforts of the pickers.
Terrell county farm lands are selling as
high as S3O an acre, E. T. Kenny has just
sold 300 acres three miles from Dawson to
Mr. Davidsou and his son-in-law of Stewart
county for S,OOO, and the machinery on it
for $1,001) additional.
LaGrauge Graphic: Fast cotton pickers
are not so scarce now as rfiey formerly
were, as we hear qf extraordinary feats in
this line quite frequently. Last week L. C.
Davis’ IS-year-old toy succeeded in getting
into his sack and baskets 900 pounds of cot
ton in two days, picking 420 one day and
480 pounds tbe second day. This is good
cotton picking, even where the staple grows
as fine as it does hi Troup county,
