records were beaten at tbe trotting meeting
tere to-dav. They were the fastest stallion
record the fastest mile paced or trotted in
race and three fast heats. Ten thousand
people saw the feat* performed, and the
enthusiasm was unbounded.
The day was perfect and so was t' e track.
The great Maine stallion Nelson, driven by
hisowi er, was warmly applauded when he
lower Axtell’s time of 2:12
male over this track last autumn. The
stallion went strong from the start. The
first quarter was made in 0:112, the half in
Ithree-quarterslthree-quarters iu I:36>£, and the
mile in 2:1 IX- ... ~ .
Tbe free for all pacing race then began.
It was a game fight from start to finish in
each of the thre* heats between Hal Pointer
ar.il B 8., the former winning every heat
[t-r a hard battle. In the first heat the
horses were neck and neck throughout,
Hal Pointer winning by a throat
latch only. The time, which
is the fastest ever made in a race, was 0:31 X
for the quarter, I :i'4% for the half, l:SfiX
for the three-quarters, and 2:O9J£ for tne
mile. The time in the other two heats was
2 12X and 2:18, Pickaway, Dr. M. and
Adonis were third, fourth and fifth, re
spectively, in each heat, but were never
dangerous competitors of the two leaders.

track heavy and fields small. The races re
