Newspaper Page TextA WEDDING AND A FUNEEAL. A Girl Married In the Presence of Her Father’s Corpse. From the Philadelphia Time*. Pittsburg, Oct. 27.— Prof. Charles W. Fleming, a Penn avenue music teacher, and Miss Blanche Lynn of Williamsport were married on Thursday. Oct. 16, in the pres ence of the girl’s father’s corpse. The couple had been engaged some time and were to be married in December. A few davs before the ceremony Fleming was summoned from Philadelphia, where he tad gone on business, by a telegram statmg that Judge Lynn, his intended [ride's father, was dying at Williamsp >rt He arrived too late to be married before the Judge’s death, but the latter exacted a promise that the marriage should be per formed on the day of his funeral before his coffin. This programme was carried out, the same minister conducting the marriage and funeral services. Mrs. Fleming is still at Williamsport, but her hu band is attend ing to his duties in Pittsburg. A CRAZY LOVER, Ee Shoots His Sweetheart After Kill ing a Man. From the St. Louis Republic. Alliasck, Neb., Oct. 26.—Charles M. Thoslton, a young farmer living twelve miles from here, yesterday killed Fred Robinson and fatally shot his sweetheart, Myrtle Kerr. The girl and Thoslton were engaged to be married, but when Thoslton called to see her yesterday about noon she told him that she had de cided to tnarry another man named Fore man, to piease the parents. Thoslton ex postulated with her, and she was about to get into the wagon with him when her father, Enos Kerr, rushing out of the house, seized and attempted to take her away. Robinson, who was in the house, calling on Miss Kerr’s sister, rushed out with a pistol in his hand. Thoslton, who was at the time trying to cover Kerr with a revolver, shot Robinson dead, and when his sweetheart attempted to disarm him she was shoi in the side. Thoslton is under arrest. A BRAVE GIRL. Bhe Saved Her Life When Bitten by a Rattlesnake. Corpus Christi, Tex., Oct. 26.— Lena, the 10-year-old daughter of F. G. Perenicb, a farmer, was brought hurriedly here to-day (or treatment for a rattlesnake bite. While walking near the house, the reptile buried its fangs in the girl’s leg. She seized a club, killed it, and then sucked the wound until medical aid could be had. Her recovery will be due in most part to her own bravery and thoughtfulness. Local Record for the Morning News. Ga., Oot. 38.—Much ban been said and written in Georgia abou good roads, but very little has been done. If the ciTilization of a country is to be gauged by (he condition rf its roads, as some have maiiit lined, then Georgia aud the south generally will make hut an in different showing. Thomafiville has, how ever, set a good example lo Thomas county. The city has at its ovra cost constructed a fine circular drive thirty feet wide entirely around itself. It is at an average distance of two miles from the oetiler of Thomas ville, and about twelve miles in circumfer ence. It is kept In first-class driving con dition by the city, and is known as the ”Bi ulevar.l.” By means of it pleasure driv ers never find it necessary to return by the route they went. There are pleasant drives radiating from i'homasvilie in all directions like spokes in a great wheel. One can drive out in any one of these to the boulevar l, by which they can pass to the next or the next aud then return to the city. The boulevard is very popular, and is destined snine day to be lined on its margins with manv beautiful homes. It is also very fitting that Thoraasville should lead her section In the very important mat ter of roads. The Boulevard will thus be worth many times its cost as an example alone. Cowboys Hold Up a Santa Fe Train. Albuquerque, N. M., Oct. 26.—The Santa Fe passenger train was held up aud robbed near Sau Antonio, south of this city, early Friday morning. The cowboys entered the Pullman sleeper, ond, after compelling the oonduotor and porter to fasten the doors, began robbing the pass engers. When thev had gona through three coaches, securing about $350 and several watches, the train started to pull out. Tfie robbers then jumped off. One of the men was captured in Socorro lost evening, and is now in jail. The company offered SSOO reward for the capture of the other.
