Capt. M. J. Doyle returned yesterday
from Brunswick, where, he said, he deliv

not appear. He said he felt very confident
over the outlook in Glynn county, and
hoptd to carry it by a sinail maj >i i.y.
ibis is wi.at the Times of yesterday sail:
“Capt. M. J. Doyle arrived n Brunswick

Doyle concluded Lot to address the peo

night, and took the ? :3J o’clock train for
Kawti nab. however, a meeting was held
by the republicans last night and addresses
delivered by L. 31. Pleasants, chairman of
the republican executive c mmittee, and
J. L. W biteman, chairman of the Republi
can party of Chatham county (both
colored), who arrived on tue 5:15
train yesterday af moon from Savan
nah. The attendance was not very
large, neither was the meeting very enthu
sia-tic, and there seemed to be a kind of
•limpness’ and lukewarmness about the
whole affair, while the colored constituents
were very much disappointei in Capt.
Doyle’s second failure 10 appear betore
them. The speeches delivered by Pleasants
and Whiteman were listened to quietly and
respectfully.
There w ill be a final rally of the repub

as w ill several of the other local republican
politicians.

He said ha was only here on private busi

question as to what progress the road was
making, he said: .
“We are making headway. Wo a’e not
moving quite as fast as we anticipated, on
account of the great stringency in the
money market, but the gentlemen who were
here with me some time since are stiil fully
commit ed to the scheme. The road will be

is going on now, ami about fifty-three mile?

to Covington and ab *ut twenty miles of
railroad has actually been built from
Machen, on the Macon and Covington,
to Covington, in the Georgia railroad, and
the line w.ll be completed soon to Eatonton.
At Euouton it will connect with the Cen
tral railroad branch line to that place and
at Covington with Atlanta bv way of the
Ge rgia railroad, which will make’ anew
route to Savannah. Freight can then be
brought to Savannah by wav of Covington
and Eatont n. As time progresses the road
wid te completed from Eatonton in to
Savannah and from Covington to Atlanta.”
Col. Jiacheu said Atlanta has given tbe
road satisfactory terminal facilities and will
take a large amount of the stock.
