THE NSW* XV OUT TON.
A Brief Column of Gossip from EfEtijr
bera's Tiirivinjr Metrooo.ia.
Sol Dasher, an Erlinjrham-reaml boy,
with his wife. is visiting mends in Guyton,
jir. Dasher is located at Fort Valley, and is
identified with many enterprises in that
section.
Judge Giles of f?o~iat Circle, an uuc’e of
3lr. John Christian, the sick stranger, is
visiting the latter at Mrs. Mary Ratio's.
The judge is a prominent gentleman in his
section, and was surprised to flr.d in Guyton
a climate so much resembling that of Upper
Georgia.
Jewett P. Christian, so long in charge of
the mechanical department of the Guyton
Chronicle, has resigned hij place to accept a
position in flo job department of the At
lanta Constitution. Mr. Christian is a son
of Rev, T. T. Christian and a most worthy
yoirjg man.
The Glee Club held its weekly meeting at
The residence of Mrs. Meredith, the home
of the president. Miss Meredith. It is not
known what action, if any, was taken in
reference to a public entertainment, but it
is presumed the young foiks have in srore
quip' a treat for the people of Guyton
during the holidays.
Alderman S. S. Tison, who has been look
ing after his extensive turpentine interest
in Florida, witu the view of ioc iting in that
state in January next, is on a visit to his
family at Guyron. Mr. Tison has boon
identified witn Guyton for many years, and
his determination to seek the virgin fields
of Florida is a source of much rogret to his
many frie ds.
The Guyton “Vestibule” is in charge of
Capt Jordan, the vo eruu conductor, who is
ably assisted by Mr. Malfus and Engineer
McKi .non, another veteran in the Cen
tral’s servico. This train is steadily gro v -
ing in favor with the local travel between
Savannah and Guyton. A gentleman, in
speaking of the matter, remarked that this
was largely due to the courteous attention
of the train officials.
Guyton continues tojjbuild up. Mr. H.
R. Dasher of Rocky Ford is erecting
a very handsome eight-room residence on
the laud purchased from Mr. Mark Tarver.
When completed he proposes to erect near
the railroad turn-table a large wheelwright
ami blacksmith es ablishmont, which ho
wiii run in c inflection with Mr. Morgan.
Mr. Dasher is a i eirerpriung gentleman,
and says he regards Guyton as a good field
fcr any enterprise.
Master Jiminie West, tbo bright and in
teres iug grands >n of Col, and Mrs, R. J.
Davant, met with a serious accident at
Milieu, a day or two ago. He was In Mr.
Berrien’s horse lot.when one of the mules in
a playful way reared up, and m coming
down the hoofs of one of ihe mule hit little
Jimmie on the head, making quite an ugly
g sh. It was a very narrow escape from
ins ,ant death. Tue little fellow roturned to
Guyton Friday, and is improving very
rapidly.
During the past week Guytonians en
joyed quite a literary treat from a lecture
delivered by Rev. J.' A. Scarboro, at the
Iron Hal). His subject, “Astronomy,” was
handled in a masterly manner. As the
speak >r progressed in his graphic explana
tions of the wonders of the solar system,
earth’s orbit, cause of the tides, sun, earth
and moon and all the various mysteries of
the earth’s movement?, etc., they were viv
idly illustrated with the stereopticon. There
were no crying babies present, as the pro
gramme stated the admission of such would
be placed at the moderate price of sl3 75.
John Christian of Social Circle, connected
with the Atlanta fruit nursery, was brought
to Guyton alx nit three weeza ago froir.
Bulloch county, to receive medical atten
tion for a severe attack of bil ous malarial
fever. After being treated for some time,
Dr. S. J. Lanier, who returned from Chi
cago a few days ago, was called in, and
after making a diagnosis of the case pro
nounced hi3 troubles abscess of the liver,
and to relieve the patient he
found it necessary to perform a difficult
operation. The doctor first inserted a
needle in the right lobe of the liver, which
developed the abcess. Ho then Inserted a
drain tube and drew from him fully a half
pint of pus. Those who witnessed the
operation pronounce it a fine feat of
surgery, in that be located so admirably the
abcess. The patient stood the operation
remarkably well, and seems to be greatly
relieved. Although his reoovery is by no
means assured, on acoount of his long auffer
ings, yet his friends feel hopeful.
