The Party Lea vas Jackson vile for
Monlicello and Talianaasoo.
Jacksonvili.e, Fla., Dec. 15.—This
morning about 300 of the attendants upon
the late convention at Ocala of the National
Fanners’ Alliance, who had been in this
city since Saturday night, took their de
parture on the early train for Montieello
and Tallahassee. Each one was provided
with an invitation card, noativ and appro
propriately designed and executed by the
Florida Central and Peninsular railroad,
extending the hospitalities of ihe r ud to
the visitors. On the front page were the
words: “National Farmers’ Alliance of the
United States. Itinerary of complimentary
trip via Florida Central and Peninsular
railroad, December, IbHU.” The page waa
also embellished with a shield and
cross, with “To C. and P.” on the cross,
and --Florida Trunk Line.” Oa the second
rage was printol "Compliments of the
National Farmers’ Alliance. Florida, Cen
tral and Peninsular railroad. The courtesies
of this line are extended to your honorable
body on Dec. loth and ltlth. Compliment
ary trip from Jacksonville to Monticelio
and Kiver Junction.”
THE DAY AT TALLAHASSEE.
Tallahassee, Fla., Dec. 15.— About
eighty delegates to the recent National
Farmers’ Alliance and newspaper corres
pondents arrive i here lata this afternoon
on an excursion through the state, and
were met at the depot by a reception com
mittee. The Leon hotel was thrown open
for their accommodation, and a i excellent
dinner was served from sto 7 o’clock. The
citizens have turned out ea masse, aud a
reception is being hold in tbo spacious par
lors of the hotel. One of the lady visitors,
Mrs. Perkins, remarked to-night that she
had been so royally entertained while in
Florida that if a tramp claiming to have hiß
home in this flowery state should cad at the
back door of her Kansas home siio would
feel like inviting him into the parior and
giving him the best in the house. At t e
reception to-night Senator Maun acted as
master of ceremonies.
THE SPEECH MAKING.
Gov. Fleming made an eloquent address of
welcome. Bright speeches were then made
hy President N. S. Hall of the Missouri alli
ance, H. C. Brown of Georgia, Mrs. Fannie
K. Vickery of Kansas, Jerry Simpson of
Kansas, Col. Hardin of South Dakota,
Mayor Carpenter of Tallahassee and Sena
tor Mann of Florida. The Alliance Glee
Club then furnished excellent music and
songs, after which followed a general hand
shaking. informal reception and tbe pleas
ure of getting acquainted. The programme
to-morrow will include carriage drives
among Leon's clay hills and to the mauy
beautiful lakes around Tallahassee. The
visitors will leave at 2:23 o’clock to-morrow
afternoon for Pensacola. The hotel is
decorated with rare pot plants and choice
cut flowers.
A REVENUE RAID IN FLORIDA.
The Officers Attacked at Night by an
Armed Mob.
Pensacola, Fla., Dec. 15. —Information
has just been received here of a successful
raid upon illicit distillers in Holmes county,
this state, last Saturday, and of the almost
miraculous escape from death of the
officers participating in the raid. The
offit ials have had th“ still spotted for several
weeks, and Saturday Deputy Collectors
8. J. Bryan, W. J. Colquitt and I'. I.
Alexander, and Deputy Marshals Jedy
Thompson and W. F. Stark of Alabama,
went to Holmes county in a hack and buggy
to make the seizures. They succeeded in
rapturing four stills and about a thousand
gallons of beer, anil went to Bonifay, a
small railroad station in the county, to
await the comirg of the passenger train,
on which they expected to leave.
AN ATTACK BY NIGHT.
They were stopping at the residence of A.
8. Armstrong. During tha night a number
of unknown men came to the house and
hailed the officers, who refused to come out.
The parties then proceeded to demolish the
hack and buggy m which the officers had
come to town. At this juncture the officers
came out of the house and were
immediately fired upon by the
mob. Sixty or seventy shots
were fired, resulting in the painful wound
ing of Deputy Marshal Thompson in the
knee and thigh and slightly wounding Dep
uty Collector Alexander in the leg. The
mob then disappeared.
The house in which the officers were stop
ping was literally riddled with buckshot,
and it is surprising that every officer iu the
party was not killed. The wounded men
were carried to their homes in Alabama
yesterday.

We’ll write it down till

Till everybody is sick of

that Doctor Sage’s Catarrh
Remedy cures the worst
cases of chronic catarrh in
the head, catarrhal head
ache, and “cold in the head.”
In perfect faith, its mak

to any one suffering from
chronic catarrh in the head
whom they cannot cure.
Now if the conditions were
reversed—if they asked you
to pay SSOO for a positive
cure you might hesitate.
Here are reputable men,

The semi-annual dividend of the Central
Railroad and Banking Company has not
yet been declared, on account of tho absence
of President E. P. Alexander and Mr. T. M.
Cunningham, cashier of tha Central Rail
road Bank, in New York.
The News and Courier 6 ays there are no
new developments in the Charles ton, Cin
cinnati and Chicago railroad case in the
United States court. Receiver Rord has
taken charge of the property, and will con
duct the operations of the road until the
onpoi itmeut of a permanent receiver in
February next. The news of the road being
place i in the band3 of a receiver was not a
surpri e to the people of Charleston, os the
reports of its thaky condition hud boon pub
lished s ime weeks ago. The immediate
cause of the road being placed in the courts
was the actions of some of the creditors of
tho company in Tennessee, who entered tha
state courts and prayed that a receiver be
appointed for the pot- ion of the lino lying
in that state. The dismembermsnt of the
road in this manner would, of course, in
jure it very much, and would make it much
less valuable as security for the bonds
which had been is sued. It is possible that
some other complaints might be filed by
some other creditors holding small claims.
The case will probably linger In the courts
for a long time, as the condition of the road
is most precarious. As tho defendants ad
mit in their answer to the complaint, the
road is not making enough to pay running
expanses.
