The Agriculturists to Get Passes From
tte Central After All.
CoL J. O. Waddell, president of the State
Agricultural Society, was in the city yoster
dar, on business connected with the ap
proaching meeting of the society. He was
here to confer with Gen. .Alexander
of the Central, in regard to extending free
transportation to tno member* of the so-
Heretofore th'.s courtesy has been
extended by all the railroads in the state,
but this year, under an agreement made
between the railroads, ali courtesies of this
kind were done away with, and the
auction of special rates to ©.inventions and
meetings was placed in the hands of the
„ te committee of the Southern Passenger
Association. The officers of the society
knew nothing about the action of the rail
roads until a few days ago, when their ap
plication for free tickets to come to Savan
£Ton Feb. 11 and 13 was refused, and
tbev were informed that they could get
special rates from the rate committee. This
turn in affairs took them by surprise, and
threatened to interfere seriously witn the
meeting, as it was too late to make other
ar CoL g VV n a e ddeiland Col. J. H. Estill had an
interview with Gen. Alexander yesterday
morning, and after going over the situation
of affairs Gen. Alexander promised to give
the matter his consideration. Later on he de
cided that it would be well, in view of the
circumstances, to extend the usual courtesies
on this occasion, and he at once telegraphed
the ether railroads interested advising
them of hi* decision.
Later in the day a committee consisting
of Messrs. Estill, Warren, Purse, Ryals and
Williams, from the citizens’ committee,
waited onGea. Alexander, and he informed
them that he was then in communication
with the railroads interested, and he thought
they would agree to his suggestion, and give
free transportation to the members of the
society.
The’Savannah, Florida and Western rail
way has extended the usual courtesies over
its lines.
THB ASSIGNMENT INVALID.
T. F. Johnson Appointed Receiver for
Davis Bros.
The application of Gustave Kiesling for
a receiver for Davis Bros, was heard before
Judge Falligant in the superior court yester
day morning.
No resistance vras offered by the
defendants, and after the reading of
the declaration by S. B. Adams, Esq., Mr.
Kiesling’s attorney, T. F. Johnson was ap
pointed receiver, with full power to dispose
of the stock at private or public sale. He
is required to give a bond of $30,000, to
make an inventory of the stock, and report
all matters pertaining to the business to the
court every two weeks.
Mr. Kiesling made application for a re
ceiver on account of the discovery that the
assignment was invalid by inadvertent
omissions. By an oversight the name of
one creditor was omitted from the list, and
some seventeen pianos and one organ were
left out of the inventory. The result was
that, while Mr. Johnson was nominally the
assignee, the discovery of the above state of
affairs legally left him without auy author
ity, and it became noeesiary for the matter
to bo righted. As Mr. Kiesling was one of
the largest creditors, he made the move.
It is understood that the stock will be
disposed of as rapidly as possible, as the
concern is running under a big expense,
which, of course, in time, will make a big
hole in the assets.
A CHILD’S PROSPECTIVE FORTUNE.
Complications In the Division of Vir
ginia Ehrlich’s Property.
The David R. Dillon estate is now figur
ing in the courts in New York. Virginia
Ehrlich was the legatee of Dillon. She
bore a posthumous daughter, and made a
will in favor of this child, appointing
Adolph L. Sanger one of the executors and
guardian of the child. Three years ago
she married Jackson S. Kaufman. Mr.
Sanger explained to his client that this mar
riage annulled her will. Last No
vember she died, without having made an
other will.
Mr. Sanger offered the will for probate,
and has submitted the question whether
Mrs. DilloD, when she married Kaufman,
was a femme sole in the eye of the law, being
a widow with a child to whom, and not to
her husband, her property would naturally
go. Should the will be set aside tho prop
erty, which consists largely of real estate in
this city, approximating in value probably
1150,000, would under the laws of Georgia,
be divided equally between the child, who
is now abont 0 years old, and its stepfather.
The question would then arise ns to the va
lidity of a deed by which Mrs. Kaufman in
her lifetime conveyed certain property in
Savannah to her daughter. Should this
deed be sustained and the will broken the
child, Mildred, would come into three-quar
ter; of the estate, and Kaufman would
get the remainder.

Talking of patent medi

like you to think that what’s

profess to cure everything—
and so, between the experi

You can’t always tell the

there’s no better way to sell
