GUYTON’S OCSSIP BUDGET.
A Faciage of News From Effingham's
Metropolis.
Charles Mlngledorf, who lives on tha Sa
vannah river, in Effingham county, died of
(.'nsumptiou at his home oa Thursday, and
was lu ied ait Springfield Friday. Mr,
ilr.igledcrff was a most excelient young
man, aa uncle of Mr. Metzger, of Jackson,
Jie!zg® r Cos, of Savannah, and a member
of the Effingham Huasam, which organiza
tion buried him with military honors.
On account of the freshet in the Ogeechce
river the road to Bulloch county by way of
tte Elkin’s landing bridge has been rendered
impasaabe. To save the bridge the plants
bad to be torn up and placed on the balus
ters.
The camp of Leitner & Cos., the contract
ors for building the railroad bridge of the
Macon and Atlantic, has been flooded.
Capt. J. J- Brewer, the veteran com
mander of the Screven troop a .and now con
nected with the locomotive department of
the Central railroad, has beeu spending a
few days in Guyton to recuperate. The
stalwart captain has had his nerve; pretty
we.l tested recently under the In recoil's
knife. Some time ago, while at his home
iu Screven county, Drs. S. J. and L. H.
Lanier performed an operation upon him to
relieve an aticess which had formed on his
ribs. Subsequently it was found necessary
to remove a portion of one of them. This
operation was a difficult one, but was suc
cessfully performed by Drs. Boyd and
Lanier. The captain’s many friemls will
he pleased to learn that he is steadily im
proving and will aoon be well.
J. J. Nevict, the well-known architect of
Savannah, has been visiting Guyton.
H. A. McLeod, Jr., aud Miss Lelia Bevil
of Savannah have been visiting friends in
Guyton.
Mr. and Mrs. George N. Nichols of Sa
vannah, w.tb some of the family, spent Fri
day at their Guyton summer home.
Miss Ida Mell of Savannah is visiting the
family of her unoie, W. B. Mell, Esq.
James Holmes of Fairmont, Neb., who
has been spending the winter with his
brother-in-law, Capt, John G. Clark, at
Tnsculum, will leave oa Monday for his
home in the far west.
GUYTON’S NBW LOSTMABTER.
Dr. E. E. Archer Ready to Tak9
Charge of the Postofflcr.
Dr. H. E, Archer, who was recently ap
pointed postmaster of Guyton, has for
warded bis bond to Washington, and will
enter on duty as soon as he receives his com
mission. E. R. Rahn and H. C. Gould, it
is said, are his bondsmen.
It is said that the doctor, as soon os he is
installed, contemplates making some very
desirable improvements in the handling of
the mails. He will doubtless enlarge the ca
pacity of the present office to relieve it of its
small and cramped quarters, which are en
tirely inadequate for the growing business
of the town. Ee will also institute lock
boxes, which, for the accommodation of the
merchants, are almost a necessity. He may
find it necessary to plane a convenient box
suitable for the reception of letters and
packages to accommodate the tardy ones,
who relieve the office of much of its revenue
by mailing their matter on the trains.
George Ktra- ge is being trained for assis
tant pos’niaster, and it is believed he will
prove a valuable assistant to the doctor in
giving Guyton a good mail service.
GUY TON'S NEW PASIOR.
Rev. J. C. Brewton Called to the
Baptist Church.
The Baptist congregation of Guyton,
which has been without a pastor since
the resignation of Rev. J. A. Scarboro,
alter deliberation has extended a call to
Rev. J. C. Brewton of Perry, and It is under
stood that he has the call under considera
tion, aud will in all probability accept.
Rev. Mr. Brewton is a son of Hon. J. B.
Brewton, ex-representative of Tattnall
county in the legislature, and a gentleman
of recognized ability, wbo stands deservedly
high among the Baptists of the stato.
Should he accept the call, and there seems
to bo little doubt that he will. It is predicted
that he is the man to heal the unfortunate
differences which have so long disturbed
the members of this congregation.
The congregation at Guyton is - onsidered
a good one. Its new church edifice, in the
hands of Contractor C. P. Guyton, will,
when completed, be one of the handsomest
in this section of the state.
Guytouians of all denominations will give
Rev. Mr. Brewton and his family a hearty
welcome and a generous support.

Dream* Imagine my surprise to
find it ended up with a necommen

Pellets. Nevertheless, being a treat
sufferer from sick headache, I de
termined to try them, and, to my
great jov, I found prompt relief,
and by their protracted use, a com

Pierce's Pellets often cure sick head
ache in an hour. They are gently
laxative or actively cathartic, accord
ing to size of dose. Asa pleasant
laxative, take one each night on re
tiring. For adults, four act as an
active, yet painless, cathartic. Cause
no griping or sickness. Best Liver
