This remarkable story conies from the

Augusta Chronicle: There is a young
man in Aiken who is happy to-day. A
Mr. Emanuel, of that charming town, is
the fortunate owner of a process which is
coveted by eastern manufacturers to such
au extent that they offered a cool million
dollars for the rights of using the process.
A Chronicle reporter endeavored to learn
the facts in the city last night and as far os
he was successful is shown below: Alum
inum, the metallic base of alumina, a metal
which figures to the extent of GO pier oeat.
in kaolin, has heretofore been
obtainable only through the use
of acids. So expensive has been
the process that the metal costs and $D
per pound to secure. It is as white as sil
ver, and extremely light, while possessing
the strength of steel. So costly is it that iu
only such cases as its use is imperative is it
used. Mr. Emanuel has been experiment
ing for some time with the process, which
he has now completed. The Smithsonian
Institution experts have written Mr. Eman
uel tiiat his process will place aluminum
within reach of the arts. The chem
ists of the Ohio University have
also written Mr. Emanuel that the
process described by him is practicable,
and that they are surprised that someone
has not previously hit on the method. The
offer of $1,000,000 for the process oomes
from eastern parties, who, several weeks
ago, offered $650,050, and now raise their
bid. Mr. Emanuel, it is understood, is
holding off that he may hear from Euro
pean parties who are already interested in
aluminum works. It is more than prob
able that the process will be used exten
sively in the kaolin beds about Augusta,
thus creating another important industry.

Tampa Xeica: Prof. Wright received
from Memphis by express to-day a hslnard
head which was lately unearthed at Mem
phis. There can be n o doubt of the origin
of this interesting relic. The form, with
the battie-ax on one side, the hook opposite
and the spike termination, mark it as a relic
of the fifteenth century. Turee hundred
and fifty years ago it was placed in the
grave with the remains of the bold cavalier
who bore it, and he was unquestionably one
of De Soto's men. Rust has sadly defaced
this reminder of an ago long passed, but
enough remains to identify it with tho first
white man who ever walked where Tampa
stands.
Ocala Sew Capitol: A young man,
formerly of Georgia, named J. H. Stevens,
and who has for some lime been in the em
ploy of W. J. Willis ut Blitchton, was
arrested yesterday morning on the charge
of forging a check at the First National
Bank. Saturday he asked for his pay and
received a check on the First National
Bank. Stevens then made out a forged
check, bearing the same number, name and
date as the genuine, and was properly in
troduced at the bank by parties who
vouched for his having received a check
from Mr. Willis. Early Monday morning
Cashier Mclntyre found out the forgery,
and after some adroit detective work, suc
ceeded in bagging his man in the mayor’s
court yesterday morning and had him
locked up in the county jaii.

The Portrait of a Lady |
Painted on paper by the pen of such a novelist as Henry James wil
do very well, but the real portrait of a real lady is a very different
affair. Has she pimples on her face, or blotches? Is her complex
ion sallow? If so, the conscientious artist in this realistic age will
have to put them all down. The lady’s remedy for her pimples,
blotches and sallowness is great vegetable rem
edy for the blood. There can be no beauty where
there is no health, whereas the most commonplace
features are rendered piquant and interesting by a beautiful com
plexion restores strength and vigor to the system, gives tone
to 1 h e ““"““digestive organs, and cures all nervous disorders.
Ihe potency of this wonderful blood medicine is unquestionable,
and yet, powerful as it is, it may be taken by the feeblest child and
by the most delicate female. It has no rival in the wide field which
it covers. Treatise on Rlo*4 and Skin Disease- Tailed Free.
