SLAIN IN A BROTHEL
The Victim Had Called Hla Slayer a
Hard Name.
Macon, Ga., May 2.—A man named
James Ashley, a saloon-keeper, from Lau
rens county, was yesterday murdered by
another man, named Rnfus Chapman,
who is in the lumber business
near Mcßae, in Dodge county. The
manner of the killiug was some
what peculiar aud sensational. Ashley, the
murdered man, was sitting on the doorstep
of a house of ill repute yesterday afternoon
between 3 and 4 o’clock, conversing with
one of the inmates. While in this position
Chapman came up behind and struck him
on the head with a heavy (tick,
FELL BACK UNCONSCIOUS.
Ashley fell back unconscious and Chap
man struck two more blows, saying at the
same time that some rnoDtbs ago Ashley
had called him a shameful name and that
he had been hunting for him ever since.
As soon as Ashley regained consciousness he
gave chase with a pistol. Failing to
find Chapman, he returned to the
same house and about midnight began
to suffer severely from his bead. A doctor
was called in, but Ashley died in a few
hours. Chapman was told of his victim’s
death this morning, and at once left town.
The coroner's jury returned a verdict of
willful murder. Chapman is a man of some
prominence in Dodge county, and was for
merly in business in Macon.

from other causes, it is of the utmost Im
portance that everybody should take a good
blood purifier like Hood's Sarsaparilla. This
preparation ts a clean, wholesome medicine,
carefully prepared, and possessing curative
powers Peculiar to Itself. It expels every
impurity from the blood, overcomes that
tired feeling, creates an appetite, and gives

better. Then I saw Hood’s Sarsaparilla ad

so much that I continued taking it till I had

THE GEORGIA BTATK BUILDING AND
LOAN ASSOCIATION
Is conducted on a broad and conservative plan,
and is immensely popular with the masses.
Money is more desirable at 6 par cent, than 8
percent., be the market plentiful or scarce:
and still more satisfactory to the borrower is
the WHOLE AMOUNT of his loans than b.-ing
"gouged” out of 20 to 30 per cent, of hi* money
and then compelled TO PAY INTEREST ON
THE WHOLE at a “figuring” of from seven to
ten years' The GEORGIA STATE is coming
gracefully to the rescue, however, and the poor
man finds that he is not entirely dependent on
the rich, but that he can now borrow justly and
equitably—assert his rights as a man—backed
by the greatest., the wealthiest, loan company
in Savannah. Prospectus sent to any address

“My son, 7 years old, had a white swelling
come on his right leg below the knee, whloh
contracted the muscles so that his leg was
drawn up at right angles. Physicians lanced
the swelling, which discharged freely, but
did not help him materially. I considered
him a confirmed cripple. I was about to
take lilm to Cincinnati for an operation, ex
peoting his leg would have to be taken off,
and began giving him Hood’s Sarsaparilla in
order to get up his strength. The niediclno
| woke up his appetite, and soon pieces o.
j bone were discharged from the sore. Wc
continued with Hood's Sarsaparilla, as li
seemed to be doing him so much good, as the
discharge from the sore decreased, the swell
ing went down, the leg straightened out, and
in a few months he had perfect use of his leg.
He now runs everywhere, and ts apparently
as well as ever.” John L. McMurraX,

Purifies I
The Blood
“On July 4, 1 was burnt with powder
all over my face. It soon healed, but then
bolls began to break out, and spread until I
was completely covered with them. I tried
many salves and medicines without any re
lief, until one day a friend advised me to try
Hood's Sarsaparilla to purify my blood, and
before I had taken one bottle all the boil3
disappeared. I recommend Hood's Sarsa
parilla to every one.” George Busano, 70
West Mulberry Street, Cincinnati, O.

and all that. I wag very much benefited by
Hood’s Sarsaparilla and recommend it to my
friends.” Mrs. J. M. Taylor, 1119 Euolid

The property has achieved an enviable repu

As but a small portion of the purchase money
is required in cash, and long time at a low rate
of interest for the balance will be acceptable,
this affords an admirable chance to obtain a
club house at Tybee ready for use at once.
It is a well-known fact that satisfactory sites
on Tybee are very scarce and obtainable only at
very bigh figures.
Furber's Point House, the property referred
to, is the first reached from the city, has very
superior bathing, and in addition to the ocean
view in front has a splendid view of the Savan
nah river ship channel, and Is the least of all the
hotels troubled by the shifting sards.
Very easy terms can be secured, so that If
purchased by a club the installments of mem
