Dr. Bead, and Messrs. Walker, Hunter,
Blun, llyers, Tattnall, Saussy, Arson and

Supt. Baker read his monthly report, in
which, among other matters, he staled that
the night school, which closed June 1, had
proved a complete success. The average
attendance was about 100 scholars.
The committee to which had been rej
ferred the charge of alleged ill-treatment
•fa pupil in the Cathedral school, reported
that it had investigated the same and found
that there were no grounds for the accusa
tion. m
Commissioner Myers, from the committee
on school buildings, reported that the con
tract for the Henry street school bad been
awarded to Mr. A. J. Avlesworth, and teat
work will begin immediately. The build
ing is to be finished by Jan. 1, 1892.
A letter read from the teachers of the
grammar school, aski ig that they be al
lowed to have a public exhibition, was
granted, under the following resolution
offered by Mr. Saussy:
Resolved, That the teachers of the Grammar
school ba authorized to hold a publics examina
tion in a public hall, and in the daytime, and
that iOO be appropriated for that purpose.
M. A. O’Byrne, Esq., was uuanlmously
elected a member of the board to fill the
vacancy occasioned by the resignation of
Mr. John A. Douglass.
The election of teachers then took place.
Under a resolution of the board the eighth
grade of teachers was abolished, and the
system of numbering the grades was
changed so that the seventh grade
grade) would be the highest, and the first
grade the lowest,
They were but few promotions or other
changes. The roll of the teachers Is given

COL. W. E. H. SEAHOY RETIRES.
And Will Have Nothing Mora to Do
W.to the AUianos Presidency.
From the Griffin (Go.) Call.
Mr. Editor—You ars authorized to an
nounce that I shall ask my county alliance,
at its next meeting, to withdraw my name
from before the state alllanoe as a candidate
for the position of president of the order,
and that I shall have nothing farther to do
with the matter.
I return thanks for the many kind ex
pressions of frieudship I have received from
both Individual brethren and lodges of the
state, and I am indeed gratified that no un
kind word has been said of me, so far as I
know, throughout the entire order.
I also thank the press of tbs state for the
many good things they bavo said of me
personally in connection with the mention
ing of my name for this position.
I would, of course, feel it a great honor
to serve the alliance in any position it might
call me to occupy, from doorkeeper to the
highest position in its gift, but, in the pres
ent condition of the order, I readily see that
to allow my name to be mentioned further
for the office of president plaoet me In an
attitude I cannot afford to occupy. If I
evsr come to this high position I wish to
to come as the unanimous choice of
the brotherhood, aud not as the
leader of any faction, clique or ring.
To do what I wish to do—that is,
place the entire order upon a plan of action
that will secure prosperity to the farmers
through their personal efforts under tha
most approved principles of co-operation, I
would have to be backed solidly by tiie en
tire organization. This cannot be at the
present time. The order, with great una
nimity, has indorsed Hon. L. F. Living
ston for re-election to this position.
They believe that his re-election is ab
solutely necessary to vindicate him
from charges that have been made against
him. To combat that position and fight
for my own personal advancement, would
ill become me with the objects and a’ms I
have in view. If I had political aspirations
1 might be tempted to wedge my way iuon
any line, but having none I can afford to
wait until the present situation is relieved
and the order calls me to the work I would
gladly do. This 1 shall do.
la taking this step I wish to say I am
following the dictates of my own judgment,
tt'.d that I have had no conference with any
one in regard thereto and have entered into
no complications or agreements of any na
ture.
I am simply out, and only for the reason I
have stated." W. E. H. Searcy.

Tha spring Medicine.
The popularity which Hood's Sarsaparilla
has gained as a spring medicine is wonder
ful. It possesses just those elements of
health-giving, blood-purifying and appe
tite-restoring which everybody seems to
need at this season. Do not continue in a
dull, tired, unsatisfactory condition when
you may be so much benefited by Hood's
Sarsaparilla. It purifies the blood and
makes the weak strong.—Ad.

THE MORNING NEWS: TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 1891.
A Porerty-stricken Millionaire t
This seems a paradox, but it is ex
plained by one of New York’s richest
men. “ I don’t count my wealth in
dollars,” he said. “What are all my
possessions to me, since I am a victim
of consumption ? My doctor tells me
that I have but a few months to live,
for the disease is incurable. I am
poorer than that beggar yonder.”
“ But,” interrupted the friend to
whom he spoke, “consumption ran
be cured. If taken in time, Dr.
Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery
will eradicate every vestige of the
disease from your system.” “I’ll
try it,” said the millionaire, aud lie
did; nnd to-day there is not a health
ier, happier man to be found any
where. The “Discovery” strikes at
the seat of the complaint. Consump
tion is a disease of the blood —is
nothing more nor less than lung
scrofula— and it must and does yield
to this wonderful remedy. “ Golden
Medical Discovery” is not only an
acknowledged remedy for that terri
bly fatal malady, when taken in time
and given a fair trial, but also for all
forms of Scrofulous, Skin and Scalp
Diseases, as White Swellings, Fever
sores, Hip-joint Disease, Salt-rheum,
Tetter, Eczema, Boils, Carbuncles,
Erysipelasand kindred ailments.
