Vet Yacht Eutlder Herreshoff and His
Wife Still Bear the Yoke.

Providence, R. 1., Oct, 22.—A suit for
divorce brought by Mrs. John B. Herreshoff
against the famous blind yacht builder is to
tv tried in the Rhode Island courts this fall.
It is one of a series ol suits which have
been brought from time to time by one or
the other of the parties.
Mr. Herresholf and his wife have lived
apart f 'r five years, he residing in Bristol
■with his daughter, and Mrs. Herreshoff in
Providence. Tho first suit for a divorce
was by Mr. Herreshoff and withdrawn. A
ate n i one brought by Mr. Herreshoff and
dismissed. A third was brought by the
bjatbuilder aud discontinued. Then he
went to California and brought suit there.
Mrs. Herresholf answered and, upon her
agreement to bring suit here, it, too, was
discontinued.
Mrs. Herreshoff brought suit here aud it
was dismissed because of the agreement
made iu California. Last summer Mrs.
Herreshoff brought the pending suit, charg
ing her husband with desertion aud cruelty.
A lew days later Mr. Herreshoff filed a cross
bill, charging desertion. John B. Herres
boff has been blind for years. He and his
brother, Nathaniel, have designed and built
some of the fastest aud best yachts in the
world. The now famous sloop Gioriana,
owned by ii. D. Morgan, is their latest pro
duction. Among the other Herreshoff crafts
are the United States torpedo boats Stiletto
and Cushing, the steam yachts Ballymena#
Now Then, Say When, Henrietta and
Vamoose, and a num bor of sloops and yawls,
all of which have developed good speed.
They are at present building an 80-foot
steam yacht ami a 48-foot sloop, and they
have jest launched a 25-foot-yacht that is
said to be swift.

Remarkable Abnormal Appetite of a
Colored insane Patient.

New York, Oct. 22. —On the marble
mantelpiece in the office of Dr. Fleming, in
the asylum for the insane at Fiatbuah,
stands a glass jar containing a curious col
lection of nails, chunks of coal, buttons,
little pieces of tiuware, stones of various
sizes, and colors and fish vertebral.
Thereby hangs a tale.
John B. Woodley at one time owned them.
He carried them around with him for sev
eral years until he died. Then they were
taken a-vay from him by Dr. Fleming and
Dr. Smith, who performed the post mortem
examination and explored bis stomach.
There they found the collection now in the
glass jars.
Woodley was a patient at the asylum.
He was colored, and when committed to
the institution gave his occupation as a la
borer. He was 41 years old.
While working about the grounds his fel
low workmen noticed that he was almost
continually picking up stones and either
tossing them high up in the air or putting
them in his mouth to chew on. It is said
that Woodley could break an ordinary stone
with his teeth without apparent effort. He
often told his associates that if be were hun
gry he could make a fair meal out of lamps
of coal, stones and other things, which to
the ordinary mortal would prove decidedly
indigestible.
On one occasion, about a year ago, it is

Joseph Fitzpatrick had a tussle over the
possession of a silver watch chain belongi ig
to tho nurse. Woodley became frantic and,
finally capturing it, put the whole chain in
his mouth aud began chewing vigorously.
That was the last seen of the chain. Wood
ley died on Oct. 10.

Shelby villa, Ind., Oot. 22.— Dr. John
3V. ililoy, a prominent citizen of Snrdina,
Decatur county, bought, throe years ago,
ut sheriff's safe, a large farm house near
that village known as the old Cleudenning
place.
Yesterday, while rerooflng the house, car
penters found hanging to the rafters of a
ore-story kitchen addition the skeleton of a
human being wrapped in a sheet. From
all appearances the skeleton has been there
for several years.
Dr. Riley began an investigation and
brought to light these facts: About fifteen
years ago John Clendenniug, who owned
the farm, died, leaving *40,000 to his son
John,and a daughter Emma, then married
to a man named Shank. In the distribution
of his estate the homestead fell to John, who
squandered his property.
About the time of these reverses a fine
bay horse was found on John's premises sad
dled and bridled. Young Cleadenning ad
vertised it as a stray horse. From that
tiire young Oiendenning beoarne inelau
ohoiy and shortly afterward he disappeared
and has never been beard of since.
Shortly before the disappearance of Cleu
denuing a prominent stock buyer named
McKinuey, who lived ia the vicinity, dis
appeared, and from all the circumstano3
then known it was thought he had been
murdered for his money. It is also said
that when he left home he rode a horse
similar to the one found on Clendeimine’s
premises. It is now surmised by many that
Llendenning murdered McKinney, and that
the skel ton is the stock buyer’s.' The skull
of the skeleton appears to be punctured as

One Hundred Central Employes Al
ready Taken to Atlanta.
Chief Clerk W. I* Byrd of the auditor of
receipts ofllco of the Central railroad left
for Atlanta last night accompanied by
thirteen youug men, employes of the office
in Savannah who have been given positions
with the Richmond aud Danville in At
lanta.
Besides Mr. Byrd the party included C.
J. Hunter, M. A Gaudry, William McLeod,
J. E. Mynck, Marx Liughhead, Chris Hel
ler, A. M. Honour, W. O. Chariton, H. A.
McLeod, M. C. Proctor, J, M. Speight, F.
B. Torlay ad George Rawls.
A special sleeper was attached to the At
lanta trail i to accommodate the party. A
number of the friends of the young men
were down at the depot last night to see
them off, The boys said they dishked to
leave Savannah, but it was their luck, and
there did not seem to be any way cf getting
around it.
Chief Clerk Feuger, |who carried up a
party of twenty-two last Monday night,
came down from Atlanta Saturday and re
turned with the party again last night.
This completes the removal from Savannah
of Controller Mclntyre’s office, including
almost his entire force.
The freight department, including seven
teen clerks, was taken complete, as was also
the statistical department of six clerks.
All the employee of the office were offered
positions in Atlanta, and the majority ac
cepted, only a few being left behind, who
did not choose to accept.
The clerks said last night that they had
been treated very fairly by the Richmond
and Danville. All were offered positions
who would accept, with the assurance that
they would be fairly treated in tho re
organization of the office forces of the Rich
moud and Danville, which takes place about
Dec. 1, and the guarantee of two months
salary, October and November, in case
their services were dispensed with. Those
who did not choose to go to Atlanta re
ceived their salaries for October.
Besides the sixty-four employes of the
auditing department, a number of the for
mer employes of the Central railroad were
transferred to Atlanta with the claims de
partment, the car accountant’s dep rtment,
the passenger department and other
branches of the service.
Savannah loses about 100 men by these
changes, besides a number thrown'out of
employment here by the ohange.
Died from Her Burns.
Josephine Butler, the little colored girl
who was so badly burned by her clothing
catching tire, Friday morning, on Taylor
street, died from her wounds, and was
buried yesterday morning.
A Maniac
Makes a Very Dangerous Counterfeit
Ten-Doilar Bill.
Indianapolis, Oot. 26. Samuel Farley
and Charles Cooper, employed us attendants
at the Central Indiana Insane Asylum were
arrested last night for passing a counterfeit
*lO national bank bill on A. J. Smith, a
street car conductor.
The arrest developed a singular fact. The
bill was made by Franklin Bradley, for
many voars a patient under treatment at
the L.sune ossylum. He imagines he is a
daring and skillful counterfeiter, and years
age he

of his right hand, thinking that by eodoing
it added to his skilHas an engraver. He
takes ordinary white paper, which he crum
ples and gives an old and soft appearance
by a process of his own.
The execution of the bill is all done by a
pen with common red and black ink. The
back of the bill is an exact fac simile and
calculated to deoeive. The front has an ex
cellent portrait of Washington, but the
pioture representing the landing of Colum
bus is replaced with fantastic fancies, one of
which represents a
PASSENGER TRAIN IN MOTION.
Some years ago Bradley made a *SO bill,
which was seized by the secret service and
is on deposit at Washington.
The asylum authorities have permitted
him to exercise bis peculiar latent to divert
his mind, without thought that his work
was calculated to deoeive.
After his arrest Farley claimed that he
bought the bill of a fellow-a tendant for 75
cents and sold it to the conductor as a cu
riosity for £l. The conductor, however,
sets up that he gave change for its full
value.
Cooper and Farley were appointed from
Shelby county, and bear ex?ellent reputa
tions. They will be prosecuted on the
double charge of passing counterfeit stuff
and having fraudulent money in their pos
session.

Ruth Cleveland received a present of a
pretty aacque made by the deft Angers of a
Philadelphian. The garment is made of
cream-colored Henrietta cloth, lined with
white silk. The cults on the sleeves and
the bottom of the coat are scalloped
and each soallop bears flue
specimens of needlework. A
grapevine artistically trails up one side of
the sueque and down the other, all worked
with a needle.
