I ’’ 31—The final <*f
the ■ oi-*nei with a clear sky.
ItuAie ihe ekrly niornihg the temperature
wavery low. but after the sun rose the
moderated rapidly and the cars
to th\ •xposition were all filled. The
grounds were thronged with people and
the buildings were full. Many of the ex
hibitors had a small harvest in the sale
of souvenirs, while the Chinese village auc
tioned off its bric-a-brac. The exhibits
i re all in good sh!>e and were not dis
turbed until after dark. During the af
ternoon the camels and donkeys of Cairo
street were driven out. but most of the
places on the Midway were wide open and
doing a good business.
Although the crowd was one of the
largest during December, there was no
ceremonial. There had been so much of
ceremony heretofore that tt <was deter
mined to let the last day be a free and
easy, so that visitors might make the best
of the exhibits.
This evening as dark the beau
tiful illumination was/ffTvprw and the elec
tric fod.mtfdn f er the last time displayed
its charms. Although was a large
crowd, the best of order prevailed and
everybody seemed to be in a good humor.
The directors held a nteetlng at 4
o'clock and transacted business of some
importance, mainly directed toward fire
and police protection for the grounds and
buildings. ... - -
To-night at 6:lu o clock a force of ex
perts began packing up the pictures In
the art gallery, and at the same time
similar work was begun on the govern
ment exhibits In the mines and forestry
building. It is expected Jhat the work
of packing and shipping the exhibits
in the government building will pro
ceed rapidly.
In the manufacturers' building the for
eign exhibitors will attempt to dispose
of their wares as far as possible be
fore packing up.
In the transportation building Capt.
E L. Tyler, chief of transportation, will
have an office and look after the removal
of the exhibits.
By resolution of the board of directors
all salaries and wages cease to-night,
but the president is empowered to make
new contracts for such limited help as
may be needed to wind up the affairs
company. One turn stile at the
Hnaln enlranee will be left open, but an
■dmitslon fee will be charged to keep out
■tragglers, who would interfere with ex-
Blbltors in packing their goods.
W Tne Pennsylvania building will be ror-
Imally turned over to tne Piedmont
driving Club by Commissioner Keenan
Hfery soon. The New York state building
■will also pass into Ihe hands of the club,
Both of these structures having been
Brected on the grounds of that otganlxa-
Bion.

ii\ \ TON’S SCHOOL LAW.
\lt AAa* Ratified Yesterday by a Two-
Thirds A'ote.
Guyton, Ga., Dec. 31.—An election was
held to-day to ratify the bill establishing
a system of public schools for the town of
Guyton.
The opponents of the measure kept
away from the polls, thinking, doubtless,
that indifference would probably defeat
it. as it required a two-thirds’ vote of
the legal voters of the town to make it
operative. The town passed upon the bill
favorably, and it will be put in operation
at once. It provides for a reasonable
rate of taxation for school purposes, and
requires the county school commissioner
to pay over to the town authorities the
per capita school fund, to be determined
i by the ratio the school population of the
town bears to the school population of
(he county This will bring, at least, dou
ble the amQiint of money into the schools
I from this source. The increased revenue
i will put the'schools on a solid basis.

Brunswick, Qt., Dec. 31.—Cashier Jame?
Herr Smith of the National Bank 04
Brunswick has resigned to a cept a

Mr. Downing’s place and while the change
is regretted by the hank officials. Mr.

The Governor IncrenNc* Ihe Offer to
HI, OOO for the Two.
Atlanta. Ga.. Dec. 31.—The Zeigler
brothers, who killed the sheriff of Screven
county, are still at large, despite the re
wards that have been offered for their
arrest, and.Gov. Atkinson has increased
the reward to &>OO each. If any reward
will be effective this will probably result
in the capture of the murderers. Since
the killing of Sheriff Brooker, to avenge
their father’s death, the Zeigler brothers
have lived quietly at home and no officer
has attempted to arrest them. Recently
a posse visited the house, but It was con
veniently vacated by the Zeigiers, and
neither was founcL&t home. The governor
is determined to have them brought to
the bar of Justice.
