To Prayer, Sad Soul.
BY MBS. A. F. LAW.
To prater, sad soul!—Though by the world ca
ressed,
Its empty smiles can soothe no heart oppressed:
Its hiss is Judasrliko,—its words are vain,
And from its wiles, thoucanst not peace obtain.—
Go, ask the lore of Christ, the conqueror King t—
To thee, poor child of care, He’ll comfort bring;
Beside reviving streams He’ll lead thy way,
And heavenly manna grant thee, day by day.

To prayer, sad soul! Nor trust to worldly friends,
VVhcn.'uesth distressing fears thy spirit bonds
In sorrow's hour their aid is all in vaiu.
For hearts : u gladness joined, in woe are twain.
But ikavfW to God, there is a friend, whose love,
' A'A 0 r grief, will steadfast prove; i
Atu. la, lie died, and bore the cross’s shame,
To clcanto thy guilt,—blest Jesus is liis name.

Then fades away,—and leaves Id' 1 weeping there.
Without one gleam of hofv,—until the cry
Of contrite grief, intends to Cod, on high.
To prayer, sad soul!—When trials throng thy
path,
And all around doth bode o’erwhelming wrath ^
In this dark hour of need,—rest on the “rock,"

shock; . '
And murmur not,—for He is just, who sends
Affliction's yoke;—thus stubborn wills Ho bends
