PARCELS POST SYSTEM
PROO FOR IN BILL
Senator Bourne Confident His
Measure Will Be Widely
Approved
(Bv AMoeiated Preas.l
WASHINGTON. Dec. s.—With the
end In view of supplying a basis for
the work of the committee on post
offlces and post roads. Senator Jonathan
Bourne sooh will introduce a bill pro
viding for a parcels post system. Th*
measure will authorize an Increase to
11 pounds in the size of fourth-class
mail packages from the present maxi
mum of four pounds and at the same
time provide for a diminution of
charges from the present rate of one
cent a pound.
Pound packages will be carried for 10
cents with an additional charge of 4
, cents for each additional pound. For
the smallest package provided for,
weighing eight ounces, there will be a
charge of fi cents. In cases in which
the package does not go beyond the
rural route on which it originates, the
charge will be reduced one-half.
Senator Bourne expresses confidence
in the self-supporting character of the
bill. "In view of the fact that prac
tically all of the carriers on the 42,000
rural routes in operation could carry
four times as much matter as they
now carry without any cost for ddi
tional equipment I am satisfied that ’he
proposed system would pay for itself
from the beginning.” he said. "At pres
ent 75 per cent of their energies are
wasted and it is the part of wisdom to
utilise them."
The senator said the measure would
be used as a basis for future hearing*.
"Heretofore witnesses have spent much
time opposing features which never
were contemplated," he said. fWe will
now give them something concrete tu
talk about and we hope to press along
as rapidly as the importance of the rub
ject will justify. I hope we may get
results before the close of the session."

GREAT KIDNEY REMEDY SAVES
TWO CHILDREN IN ONE FAMILY
About one year ago two of my children
suffered badly from weak kidneys and
diabetes. They would have severe spells
of dizziness and were all run down in
health. I was just about discouraged. I
tried several remedies aoid finally a doc
tor, but they did not seem to improve.
I knew of a friend who was taking
Swamp-Root for kidney trouble with good
results and I decided to get some for the
children I had noticed tha<t there was
some improvement after they had taken
two large bottles and continued to give
it to them until they had taken one-half
dozen bottles and were well on the road
to recovery. I think Dr. Kilmer’s Swamp-
Root has done more for my children than
any other medicine I have tried and rec
ommend it to anyone having children
that suffer as mine did.
Very truly yours,

! WAYCROSS COUNCIL
TO NAME OFFICERS
t WAYCROSS, Ga., Dec. 6.—With the
• outcome of the December city primary
r in Waycross in doubt, there is conslder-
■ able speculation about the city post-
■ tions council will fill by election at
i the first meeting in 1912. That some
■ decided changes will be made seems cer
-1 tain, but whether the present officials
will merely be switched around or arop
, ped entirely Is not known.

OFFICERS PUZZLED
BY STEPHENS’ DEATH,
SWAINSBORO, Ga., Dec. s.—The mys
tery surrounding the killing of William
Stephens, who was murdered whll*
asleep in his bed in his home In th* up
per part of Emanuel county, is puzzling
the officers deeply still, since they can
not find any clue to the murderer or
what the motive for the killing was.
Some one entered the room in which
Mr. Stephens slept, committed the crime
and left before the murdered man’s
daughter, who was cooking breakfast In
the kitchen, could reach her father’s
bedside. The bullet penetrated th* top
of Mr. Stephens* head, causing instant /
death. Stephens had a pistol between
the bed and mattress, but it was found
loaded all around, which precludes all
idea of suicide. The ball which entered
i..e top of the head ranged down the
backbone. The officers are busy try
ing to obtain some clue from which to
work.
