NEW YORK, Jan. 24.—The eottou market opened at a decline of 2 to 8 pointe today un der a moderate accuumulatlon of selling orders which seemed to refh ct some hedging from • sou them sources as well as scattering local or I Wall street offerings. The census report show- ; Ing 10,766.202 bales ginned prior -to January 1 16 was considered as jiointing to a total yield ■ 1 within the government’s estimate and there was some foreign buying here at the decline. The cables were lower than due. however, and after slight rallies, the market eased off again un der continued liquidation with March selling down to 12.19 anil July to 12.58, or to a net decline of about 11 to 15 points on the active months. New crop deliveries were relatively steady both here and In Liverpool. Houses with Liverpool connections seemed to he taking a good many contracts out of the market on the early decline, and offerings ta pered off during the middle of the morning with prices showing rallies of 4 or 5 points from the lowest. Trading was quiet later and fluctuations narrow with active months ruling about 10 to 12 points net lower around mid day. The market weakened during the early after noon under renewed liquidation, southern and Wall street selling with March contracts break ing to 1214 and July to 12.52 or about 19 points under Saturday’s closing figures. A weak turn in the stock market and rumam that spots were slightly paster In the southwest were factor* <»n the decline, and Now Orleans houses W4»re considerable sellers around the local ring. Stop orders were uncovered and after their execution the market became less active with prices showing rallies of 2 or 3 points around 2 o’clock. Jan. 24. —The ninth cotton ginning report of the season, compiled from reports of census bureau correspondents and , agents throughout the cotton belt and issued at ' 10 a. tn., today, announced that 10.7*1*1.202 bales 'of cotton, counting round as half bales, of the growth of 1915. has been ginned prior_ to Jan uary 16. That compares with 14,915,8. M» bales, or 93.8 per cent of the entire crop ginned prior to January 16 last year, 13,.'82.*'8*> latles, or 97.1 per cent In 1913. 13,088.930 bales, or 97.0 per cent in 1912. The average quantity of cot ton ginned prior to January 16 in the last twenty years was 12,231.494 bales or 95.6 per cent of the crop.
