Nov. 18. —The cotton market opened at an rdranee of 20 to 32 points today with March .Filing at 19.77 and July at 19.90, shortly after the call or about 20 to 32 points above Saturday's closing figures. Higher IJv erpool cables were accompanied by Liverpool buying order*, while local demand was stimu lated by a crop estimate of 10,800,000 bales from a Memphis authority. Prospect for a cold wave in the belt may also have been a factor on the advance, and commission houses ab sorlied rather heavy realising during the early trading. Private mables reported continental buying in Liverpool, with some hedge selling of near positions and offerings otherwise limited. Realizing was active enough to cause moder ate reactions during the middle of the morning, but the market developed renewed strength be fore midday with January selling up to 19.08 > and May «o 20.03, or about '•3 to 37 points net higher and back to nearly the«prevtous biga | records in tbe case of the latter deliveries. Spot houses were persistent buyers of January and March while Liverpo<4 bought later months and there was a broadening outside demand en ccuraged by bullish spot advices from tbe south The early afternoon advance carried March and all later deliveries into new high ground for the season with May selling at 20.08 and with the idtive months showing a net advances of about 40 to 44 points. Reactions of 10 or 12 points followed under realizing toward 2 o’clock. CHICAGO, Nov. 13.—Bullish foreign advicea gave a fresh upward swing today to the wheat market here. Liverpool sent word that arrivals of wheat were much under and that stocks were detwuaslng. Furthermore, damage to tne Argentine crop continued owing to frost, drouth and locusts. It was said tbe locusts had f.pre.'d into Buenos Aires province. Opening prices, ghich ranged from %c to 2% higher, with December at $1.91 to $1.92%, and May at $1.94 to $1.95%, were followed by a re action but then a rise higher thtn before. Wheat valu’* surpaased tbe highest records in many year* on active expert demand. A liberal Increase of the domestic visible supply totfil, however, led finally to a setback which was in creased by assertions that Argentine flour could be delivered In the United States much cheaper thnn the domestic article. The closa wa s unsettled at $1.89% to $1.89% for Decem ber and $1.94% for May. with the market as a whole %c off to 2c up as compared with Saturday’s finish. Unfavorable Argentine conditions tended to lift corn as well as wheat. Offerings were light and corn went to the highest orlaes yet this season. After opening % to 1% nf, the market sagged a little and then scored de cided additional gains. May corn reached to within a fraction »f f) a bushel, but industries remained free buyers The close was nervous at 2% to 4% net ad vnnee. Oat* like corn and wheat ascehded to new high price records for 1916. Nefirly all com mission houses were on buying aide owing largely to the bulge in corn. .
