Bear Sir—Permit me to introduce to your at
tention Mr. John C. Jenckes, an ingenious and
respectable mechanick of this town, who will ex
hibit to you, for inspection, (and should you think
proper,) approbation, a model of a machine, whl i.
be invented'during his confinement last autumh,
from an uncommonly bad fracture of both bones
of one of bis legs. You will find, upon examina
tion, the machine to be very simple in its scruc
turf, easy in in its motions, and hapnilv construe
ted to promote the convenience and add to the
oomfortnf those, who, from almost any dtsasSer*
are confined t< a sick bed. It waa at first intend
ed for the comfort only of the inventor, but since
his recovery, he has so much improved !!, that he
is anxious to extend its advantages to others, who
may from the same, or any other cause, be con
fined to a sick bed, from * hich the shortest relief
is so desirable. Any assistance you may afford
Ur, Jenckes in exhibiting his muchine for the ap
probation of the gentlemen ol the faculty in Bos-
fen, will much oblige your friend, tic.

Mr. J. C. Jenckes having requested iny opinion
of his machine for raising the sick and wounded

calculated for the purpose. In order to test its
practical utility 1 desired him to convey it to the
M-vguchusetts General Hospital, and have repeat
edly employed it there; particularly in » case of
fractured thigh,'accompanied with delirium, and
found it highly useful. Considering it therefore
a valuable invention, I very heartily* recommend
it (or the use of hospitals, and for all private pa

learn the construction and operation of his inven
