Brown, I informed him I had seen a certificate
in the hands of It IV, Vouter. Esq. from A. A.
Smets, or W atts & binds, which was calculated
to’injure his character, and would in inv opi
nion injure him unless promptly refuted, and
advised him to obtain a copy of the cc]\ifica;e
from Mr P, at ','oncc. He observed lie would
attend o it immediately, that he, Brown, h >w-
ever considered the transaction innorent and
honorable, and that he thought Mr: Pooler had
been satisfied with the explanation he had
given. That the only object lie bad in making

was to ascertain whether Watt A Smets intended
