The writer of the articlo from which
this paragraph is extracted may rest as-
fured jtcdoe.s arent injustice to the Clerks,
if he .flipposccfthey make,themselves bu
sy in the election even of the chief Magis
trate, towards whom thoy have a near po
litical relation. As far as our porsonal
observation extends, we can sincerely say,
that wc have been surprised to see how
little concern they have 'generally suffer
ed themselves to take in the great pending
election.—ib.
Our renders arc already apprized of the
scenes of insolence and outrage under
which the late decision wns made in the
Legislature of New York,iu regard to her
Electoral votes. *Thc tone of the ultra-
federal prints corresponds with the spirit
of those scenes. Even after the choico,
on second ballot, by an unequivocal ma
jority, of the fonr remaining Electors, the
Albany Daily Avertiser (the same which
palmed upon its renders the falsehood that
one of the Editors of this paper was pre-
at Albany during the election,) says—
“Though four men have been elected
yvhp ar£ supposed to te in ;fnvor of Wm-
If. Crawford, we do not believe he will
receive tv single vote from New York, for
nineteen twentieths of, hecitizens would
DAMN the deed as a DAMNING and
most wanton contempt of public opinion.”
Here is a print which calls a victory,
yielded to a minority, a.glorions triumph,
proclaiming damnation to those electors
who shall vote as the Legislature has, Jijr
a clear ‘majority,; chosen them expressly
to do. Yet with this flagrant contempt
of positive instruction by the People, the
writer pretends to be himself of the popu
lar opinion. Judging him by his language,
he is a lino Jacobin, and it is quite likely
I10 was among the number of those (who
are said to have regaled the ROpregenta-
lives of the People, engaged in their legis
lative duties at Albany, with hisses, groans ,
and imprecations from the galleries.—ib.
G F.OKOK Brown, formerly of the vicinity
of Green-burgh, Penn, who was supposed
to have been robbed and murdered in York
County, sonic months ago, by a man and
his wife, who wore arraigned upon the
testimony of a girl that resided with them,
is now ascertained to he alive. A letter
from a gentleman of integrity at Palmyra,
Mo. Oct. 3Q f 1824, states that he saw and
conversed with Mr. 15row 11 nt St. Louis on
the 25th of Sept. He was employed on
hoard a keel boat, and wns going to the
lead mines on the Upper Mississippi to en
gage as a riiiner.

Inspector of Prisons ofHic Citv and Coun
tv of Philadelphia, to John II. Mitchcjl,,

individual, who 'was lately apprehended
in this City in’tte nttompt to run off with
the Pilot Boat Cora. The dcscriptidn
given in the letter regarding his person,

“An account appearing in tho papers,
detailing the detection of one JoteTardyg,
alius John Tate", in nn attempt'to ifc'tU 1 a
vessel, the Inspector of the Prison*, in tho
City and County of Philadelphia,deems it
requisite to state that on the 17th of July
Inst, a man by the name of Jncquo Tardy,
was discharged from this place, after ser
ving out a sentence of seven years, on
charge of conspiring to poison the Crew
of a vessel in which lie was a passenger.
He is a rioted villain, and it was his inten
tion when he left this prison, to go as soon
as lie could arrange matters on u Piratical
expedition—this sets at rest tho question
rip to his views in stealing tlic vossel. lie
was once tried in this place for poisoning
a vessel’s Crow, anti .acquitted for want
oftestimoriy. llis own account of himself
at divers time to hifc fellow prisoners, is a
tissue of unparalleled villainy.”

rived last evening in 17 days from La
Gunyra. By this arrival wc have receiv
ed uregulur file of the Cnruccns El Go
lombinno, from the 1st Sept, to the 20th
Oct. inclusive. These papers contain no
intelligence of importance; hut Cupt. Hil
lard, who came passenger in the Edgar,
has furnished us with a copy ofthe Colom
bian Gazette Extraordinary, of Nov. 4,
containing an official confirmation of the
victory of Bolivar, over tlfo cavalry of the
Royulists under Cantcrnc. This despatch
was received ntCnrnccnsby nn extraordi
nary post, which left Bogota on the 20th of
Sept. The particulars do not differ es
sentially from advices which huve already
been published.
Gen. Pnez had also arrived in Carrnc-
cns,. a letter from Gen Bolivar, written cm
the field of battle, stating the loss of the en
emy in the late battle to be in killed,
wounded.and prisoners, upwards of 30D0' 1
men. In consequence of this newp, great
rejoicings and illuminations took plncc in

SWEDEN.—Wo liave received from a
correspondent at Gottcnburgh different
papers to the latter part of September.
They are confined to a very small size and
a degree of eoncisencss anddryness which
makes them vory uninteresting. The
censors repress overy thing which might
bring the government iqto discredit, and
thus thp value of newspapers has been re

mark of one who has had abundant mearid

The use of a Tea Kettle.—A scholar who
was rending at night heard h tltidf break
ing through the wall of his house. Hap
pening to have p tea-kettle with boiling
water before the fire, he took it up, and
plucing himself by tho side ofthe wall,
waited for the' thi T. The hole being made,
a man thrust his feet through? when the
scholar immediately seized them, and be-,
gan to bathe them with,boiling water. The
thief screamed and'sued for mercy; hut
the scholar roplibll very gravely, “stop till
