labored to prejudice them, as somo of them
attempted fo prepossess mo against what
they denominated quackery. Some of tho
managers'felt inclined to tlie trial, consid
ering that as they were cases abandoned <by
the medical men which were to be opera
ted upon, no harm at least would he done,
and if cure was practicable, rho opportuni
ty ought to be afforded, but they expressed
a reluctance to take any responsibility upon
them; by which l understood that tltny did
not like to put themselves in opposition to
the physicians. Olliers opposed it alto
gether. -I therefore offered und todk upon
myself whntovor responsibility there was in

would accompany him, and did so. The
first case selected was that of a woman,
whose appearance was horrible, and whose
condition was so deplorable that the pa.

recovered in nny court of competent juris

flut, ark, hulk, wreck, crib, raft,or erection,
shall he sunk, or caused, or permitted, or
suffired lobe sunk in tlie river Savannah,
between Ray’s Hall anil Ilia ocean, or tn
drift up and dnivn said river, or.tojndge to‘
the injury or annoyance of the navigation
thereof, against the wharves, hanks, shoies
or sides thereof, or any of them, the person
who shall so slnk.or.copse to bo sunk, or to_
drift or lodge, aa aforesaid, civ Hie owner or

come so, shall be sold, it shall be the dnty

ling ot otherwise disposing of the same, to'
demand and take as one of the conditions'
of sale, or otherdisposition thereof, of and
from the purchasers, or person or persons
