Mr. Swaini expressed in me a wish to tin
dertake the cure nf some persons then 1 in
the house, whose cases were given up as in

disturbmacs in tne system. Not only do
they aggravate'ordinary diseases when they
are pres'ent, but they also give rise to u
great variety of very alarming anoinaluus
affections. The whole train of spasmodic fc
convulsive diseases may proceed from tlie
irritation of worms ill thc'alimentary canal.
tJImiera, epilepsy, cntnlepsy, lemons, pa
ralysis, mania, convulsions, as .well as a
variety nf otiier jnervous and convulsive
affections, are pet unfroquently the timne-
diate effects of this cause. Besides tlicso
diseases, wnrms have also bcun known to
produce plouriticand rhommuic pains,dys
entery. remitting fever,dropsy of the brain,
chronli: and spasmodic cough, &c. &c.

woman of about 30 of 82 years of ago. her
right eye was'already. uesiruved, the left
eye piotruded moro than half ao inch out

one complete ulcer, the^flesh of the nose
had disappeared and left tlie nostrils , uvo
naked holes, the uppoi lip on tile left side
was destroyed, and tlie leeih and gums
hare, and ihe whole face, ns it nppenrod to

had left her—she represented a living skel
eton friglnful to behold. Mr. Swaiin said
Ivy, obuld cure her; lie ‘could not restore the
lost eye, nor restore the nose, but he could
restore the left eye and the month.
He undertook the caso,., nnd J frequent*
ly attended him in his. visits'to . the poor
woman, and $he wns cured—-.and I have
frequently sden her since, going about her-

cough; irregular and depraved appetite,
being someuinos entirely suppressed, ,and
at others exceedingly-voracious; abdomen
swelled and hard; lousencss of the bowels:
oostiveness: unnatural, slimy,or fotii stools;
pains in tlie bowels; wasting of tlie flesh;
convulsions; fils; palsy; and finally death.
