whoso appearnneo was liorrib'e, and whose
condition Was so deplorable that the pa
tients in the same room wished to have her
removed, and tlio evidenco of my own sen
ses justified their oomplaint. She was a
woman of about 50 or 82 years of age. her
right eye was already ecstroyed, the left
eye piotrndod more than half nn inch out
of the socket, the fiesli of the left cheek was
one complete ulcer, the flesh of. the nose
bad disappeared and left the nostrils two
naked holes, the uppei lip on the left side
was destroyed, and the teeth and gums
bare, and the whole face, as it appeared to
me, in a state of dissolution ; -her appetite
had left her—she represented a living skel-
.cton frightful to behold. Mr. Swaim said
he could cure her; ho cpuld not restore the
lost eye, nor restore the nosOj buL lie could’
restore the left'eyo and the nioiith.
He undertook the ease, arid I frequent
ly attended hint in his visits to tho poor,
woman, and she wns cured—and -1 . have
frequently seen her sinco, going about her
ordinary business with the alacrity usual

course retriained ; but all that remained
besides appeared healthful I have con
fined myself to this' case,.ujion which I
being sometimes entirely suppressed, and
at others exceedingly voracious; abdomen
swelled and hard! looseness of the bowels:
costivenessj unnatural, slimy,or foul stools;
pains in the bowels; wasting of tlio flesh;
convulsious; fits; palsy; um! finally death.
