To the Public.
I N Consequence of the numerous frauds
and impositions practised in reforenco
to my medicine, I am again induced to
chango the form of nij BOTTLES. In
future, the PANACEA will be put up in
round bottles, fluted longitudinally, with
the following words, blown in tiie glass,
“SWAtst’a Pamacea, Phiiada," as repre
sented above,
These bottles are much stronger thnn
those heretofore, used, aud will have but one
label, which cogars llte cork, with my own
Signature on ft, so that the coik cannot be
drawn without destroying the eignuture,
without which nifiie is genuine. The me
dicine may consequently be known to he
eenuine when iny signature fl trisible; to
counltrfi.it tchich.mil bt punishable as for-
ncru.
The increasing demand (or this celebra
ted medicine lias enabled me to reduce tno
price to TWO DO I.LAllS per bottle, thus
bringing it within tho reaoh of the iwJU
gent.
My Panacea requires no encomium; its
nstnnishing effects and wonderful operation
have drawn, botli from Patients and Medi
cal Practitioners of the highest respectabi
lily, the most unqualified approbation, and
established for it n character whioh Envy’s
non, though dipped in gall, .can never tarn
ish.
The -false reports concerning this vaiu
aisle medicine, which h i ve been so diligently
circulated hy certain Physicians,have their
origin either in ENVY, or in the mischiev
ous effects of the SPURIOUS IMITA
TIONS.
The Proprietor pledgos himself to the
Public, ami gives them the most solemn
assurances, that this medicine contains
neither mercury nor any other deleterious
drug.
The public ate cautioned not to purchase
my Panacea, except from myself, my ac-
credi.eil agents, or persons of known os-
peciability: ami all those will consequent
ly be uRlio ill excuse, who shall purchaso
from any oiheg persons.
mi SWAIM.
September, 1828.
Thu following certificate gives the Iris-
lory of tin- introduction of the Panacea into
the Philadelphia Alins House Inflrmary.
Those who read it. will ho convinced Mint
the proprietor lias never feared the investf?
gatiim of pliysicinns, or endeavored to ad
minister the medicine in secret. It alto
evinces the prejudices of the'faculty, that
those »ho wore so anxious originally to
exclude the medicine from this institution,
would neglect no opportunity of expelling
it, after it had been introduced.
FROM WILLIAM DUANE, Esq.
One of the Alder nun of the City oj Phi-
lattciphia. .. .
Mr. Swaim, proprietor of a medical com
position called S .vaim's Panacea, applied
to me, requesting me to state what i know
about the introduction of his medicine into
the Alms Hoiiso—and I consider jt a duty
to-comply xvith his requ- st.
Being President of the Bnnrd of Mana

Mr. Swaim expressed lo ine a wish to un

curable by the medical gentleman, that he
was confident of ouring-by his medicine
those cases, and would undertake some of
the most desperate—and would require no
pther-compensation tlikn the satisfaction
to be derived fropa-ihe service rendered..
I promised to' consult the other mana
gers, and did so; blit I found that some of
the medical gentlemen in the house had
labgred.to prejudice them, as some of them
attempted to prepossess me against -what
they denominated quackery, Some of the
managers felt inclined to the trial, consid-.
ering that ns they wove cases abandoned by
the medical men which were to be opera
ted upon, no harm at least would be done,
and if cure was. practicable, Jlie opportuni-;
ty ought to be nfforded, but they- oxpressod

not like to put themselves in opposition to
tho physicians. Others opposed it alto,

mjyclf whatever responsibility there was in
the ease, and notified Mr. Siynim that I
would accompany him, and did 59... The
first ease selected was that of a woman,

THIS valuable Anti-dysen
teric and If'prm Medicine has
been used for tlieA seven
years past, and its virtues are
universally acknowledged by
all who, pava tried it, to be far superior to
any other medicine., eyer employed for
most diseases children are suijjkr-t to. It is
perfectly safe, anil no child will refuse to -|
take it. It sebioin fails curing Dysentery,
Summer Complaint, Colic qr Cholera
Moibus, either in gintvgmarsons or children
and It gives appetite tiflRnipst all debilita
ted persons. Worms frequetuiy Infest cliil
dreu, aggravate their other diseases,and
are the chief' cause of must fever,, bowel
complaints, and chronic and nervous diseas
e>, incident to childhood, which are so nu
merous and frequently fatal. It it much
regretted iliat most vermifuges now in use
are iujorious, ami thousands of children are
swept off, or are rendered feeble, pale and
emendated through the first stage of life
—which leads on to pulmonary complaints I
&c. &C.A-.C. I-
Worms being especially apt to infest
persons u! debilitated digestive organs and
emaciated oonstituttnnvnflich mischief is
often done by tlio ordinary tvorin medi
cines, which generally consist of the strong
est purgatives, mercurials, bitters, narco
tics, or spirits of turpentine. Articles of
this kind limy destroy worms, but they de
bilitate the stomach, and often materially
injure the general health. SwAIsi’s Van-
mifuoe has the peculiar advantage oj* de
stroying und removing worms from the
bowels without tho weakening coiiseqncn-
ces of. the sirogger purgatives. &"c apd
it has, moreover, a decided tendency to
give vigor botli jo .the stomach and bowels
and organs of digestion—thereby relieving
the general system from many troublesome
complaints. It is by this means (hat so
many grown persons have, been relieved,
by its use, of different compjaints—suppo
sing themselves to bo in n decline, &c. &c.
This medicine will relieve bowel com
plaints or dysentery, bilious, cholic, vomit•
ing, sickness, pain or' weakness in the sto
mach or bowels, loss of appetite, either in
children or grpwn persons, in a fito hours t
and it seldom falls caring chills and fk-
vf.b on fkveb aoue. No family ought-,
or ever will be without it, after a trial. ■
.Worms are capable -of producing, grout
lisuirb macs in tire system. Not only do
they aggravate ordinary diseases when they I
are present, but they nlso give rise to a
great-variety irf-very nhirnring-nnomalous
a flections. The whole train mfspasmodic &
convulsive diseases .may proceed from.tlie
irritation of worms,in the alimentary canal.
Cholera, epilepsy, catalepsy, tetanus, pa
ralysis, mania, convpjsian;, as \vc!! os a
variety of other nervous and convulsive
affections, are not unfrequently the imme- |
d.iate effects pf tills cause- • .Resides those
diseases, worms have also been known to
