NEW ORLEANS COTTON LETTER.
(By Wire to Clark & Co.)
New Orleans, Feb. 28.—All Liver
pool cablos were extremely favorable
today and were expressive of excel
lent trade conditions existing In the
foreign confers. Options ruled strong
and steadily advanced throughout the
session and were 7 points above the
closing on the previous day, Bpot
sales of 12,000 bales at 5 points ad
vance were recorded. The local mar
ket acted entirely In accordance with
the more favorable sentiments eman
ating from abroad and displayed more
than the warranted amount of the
strength, when the absence of any out
side support Is considered. Whatever
short interest there may have been
Is supposedly thought to have covered
and scalpers were In their element fol
lowing the change In sentiment
No news of any great bearing Is re
ported from the spot situation, except
that the eagerly sought grades are
hold at the factors' figures, a condi
tion necessarily restricting the vol
ume of business.
While opinions have been recently
more or less against the market, any
marked change of feeling Is consid
ered by many more of momentary dur
ation than otherwise and therefore it
Is not generally expected that a fur
ther Improvement of moment will im
mediately be observed for as long as
the public show no deslrfe whatever to
further Interest themselves, scalpers’
opinions must be fraught with weight.
Even these conditions must eventual
ly ohtnln, however, should any under
lying strength become evident and the
market then, as now, will seek a high
er range of prices.
The movement shows signs of de
creasing and comparisons from this
time on are quite sure to be bullish,
and with an excellent demand ad
vances will linvo only the uncertainty
of a good planting season and large
'acreage to contend with. The long
side appears to offer the best chance,
but we would not neglect, to accept
reasonable profits.
