points. The undertone was fairly
steady.

The market lacks snap.
Port receipts were 18,000, against
31,000 last year.
There Is no denying the strength of
the fall and winter positions.

liquidation on the part of tired longs
and prices were considerably easier,
the closing of optlonB recording a net
loss of 6 points from the previous
day’s prices. The poor showing made
by Egyptian interest and the repeated
rumors of labor troubles In'the Lanca
shire district materially aided In the.
depressing of values. Spot sales were 1
8,000 bales at a loss of 6 points.
The lower opening hero was sympa- i
thettcnlly In accord with the weakness J
abroad, hut trading was so extremely
light that the further decline that oc
curred seemed to be due more than ’
anything else to heaviness and gen
eral lack of Interest In the market.
The distressing news from San Gran-
cIbco largely absorbing the attention
of traders. In the spot situation the
narrower shipping parity and the firm
ness of factors In holding for higher
prices has practically restricted busi
ness.
Such widespread disinterestedness
that has so long existed in so far as
the outside public Is concerned, seems
even to have permeated the ranks of
the omnipresent scalper, and they, too,
look askance at present market condi
tions, preferring the advent of some
