Not a Candidate.
Mr. Editor, My name having
been and still being prominently
mentioned in connection with the
coming senatorial race in this dis¬
trict, I desire to announce through
the columns ot your paper that I
am not a candidate. I am grateful
to many friends in this county and
throughout the district who have
thought me fitted for, and worthy
of the honorable position of state
senator, and who have, without my
solicitation, given me assurances
of hearty support, but my private
business is such that I can not,
without great injustice to myself
and to others whose interests I
ha ve in my hands, neglect it, to
enter the race ot perform the du¬
ties of the office. There are other
worthy and competent citizens of
the county who desire the position
and whose business at home will
not specially demand their person
a! attention, or prevent them from
giving their entire time to the du¬
ties of the office or the require¬
ments of the campaign I think it
due to Murray county that the sen¬
ator be chosen from among her cit
izens, and to ibis end I will cheer
fully give my Bupport.
