Mrs, J L Robinson, who has been sick for several days, is convales¬ cing. Jim McEntire reports a flourish¬ ing school at Flat Rock, near Car¬ ters. The grape crop is beginning to ripen. Work in the vineyard will goon be pleasant' Don't forget that about thirty five lots of land will be sold by the Sheriff next Tuesday. Who,can beat this with only two guinea liens? Some of the farmers have already given the finishing touch to then crops and others will lollow suit at an early date. It seems that both camp meet¬ ings are to embrace the 1st Sun day in September. Things should be changed a little. The handsome gold watch lost in town by Miss Sallie Bond, last Friday, was found on same after¬ noon by William Langston, The rattling sound of the thresh ing machine was heard in the bar vest fields about town last, week. The yield of grain this season is less than it has been for years. Our readers will notice in this issue the appointments of W J Peo¬ ples to address the voters of the county on the issues of the repre¬ sentative campaign. Mr. Peeplet. course in the last legislature is the best evidence we can give as to what he will do if sent back again investigate and then decide. Gilmer county is now engaged in a prohibition campaign. The vote will be taken som 3 time in August and if prohibition carries the beneficent effect will be almost as great m Murray as in Gilmer Because it will greatly aid in stop¬ ping the liquor trafic between two counties. Hurrah! for anti-whiskey side in Gilmer Wander if the town councilmen are all dead? If they are not we would like to suggest that there is some wor.i needed on the side walks which we ought to look af ter. The Minister’s Death. The death of Rev. W B Arnold, which occurred at the Methodist parsonage on last Sunday, in our town, was as universally regretted by all who knew him as any we have ever known. When Mr. Ar nold came to the Spring Place cir¬ cuit at the firBt of tho year, he was suffering from bronchial affliction, and in a short time after his arriv¬ al was confined to his bed; and’the continued strokes of the terrible disease kept gradually wearing away his strength until in the final strag¬ gles ol death his mortal existence was ended. During his sickness be received the very best medical skill, and the untiring, devoted attention ot his affectionate little wife, together with the combined efforts of his numerous friends who did all in their power to render comfort and relief to his hopeless condition. In the impressive scene of death were present liis aged la¬ ther, a minister of many years, a younger brother, and his lament ing wife for whom all entertain the very deepest sympathy. The remains were taken oil Monday to Oxford, Ga., for interment, where many of bis relatives are buried. He was only twenty five years old. possessed a mind of the highest order and promised to rank in af¬ ter years among the most able preachers of the church. But why, just in lhe beginning of a career, which it seems would have been beneficial the world, to the plastic hand of Diyiuinity ended his earth ly life, can only be classed as one of the insoluble mysteries connec¬ ted with tiie human i ace.
