Miss Mattie Morgans, aged24
for two years has been in Con
necticut, disguised in male at*
tiie. She has run over and kill¬
ed two men and ono child in
that time, and the memory of
their faces so haunted her that
she has given up her position
and made known her sex. She
is soon to marry a stationary
engineer. She will then visit
England, her home, where she
first acted as fireman on an en*
giue with her sweetheart, who
was killed by a switch engine
her womanly gnef levealiugher
sex, she then came to Amorica.
She is now the heroine of all
raihoad men.
M. V. Day, a prominent and
intelligent piaetical miller of
Elbert county, says that in
grinding western coin shipped
to this country he frequently
finds pieces of glass in the corn,
and that h s observation has
not been confined to one lot of
corn but to various lots from
.different points. He says fur¬
ther that he knows of a num¬
ber of horses and mules chat
have died iu Elbert county
from eating perfectly sound
western corn, and that be has
examined some of the com eat¬
en by them and found particles
