It would stem as if the h-s sees of tli»*. convict camps would make a special eMort to keep the camps in good condition, and to prevent abuses in them while the legislature is in session. There have been more expo¬ sures of abuses, however, since the present session begun than during si:; .months, and per liajia a year, immediately prior to that time. The evidence appea s to be quite conclusive that in some of the camps the convicts are over wo; ked, and have not a suffi¬ cient amount of wholesome food. They have not as clean and comfoi table beds as the law requires, and that they are brutally whipped theie is no doubt, T: o question which present themselves • to the legislature are these: What shall bed lie itii respect fo this convict problem!
