The Constitution. The Atlanta Constitution promises to throw open the biggest valve of her political engine during 1888. in favor ot Grover Cleveland and the true principals of democracy. This great and good, paper has better arrangements tor re¬ porting the campaign of 1888, than ever before. By special and exclusive arrangements with the leading papers of the various States and by means of correspondents in Boston, New York, Cincinnati, Chicago News and St. Louis Globe-Democrat, the progress of the campaign will be detailed in the Consti¬ tution, more fully pe: haps than in any other paper in the South. Governor Gordon on June tjje 8th repapointed S T Martin as Judge of the county couitof Miller for two yeais, dating from April 1 1888. R W Grow was appointed solicitor of the county court ot Miller for the term ending April 1, 1881*. A warrant was issued June the 8tli, in favor of the State Tieasmer for $78,377.90 a mount of interust c^ipons paid by the Treasurer a#itl cancelled and 1 eturned to the executive department as vouchers. A warrant was also issued ip fa¬ vor of the 'Treasurer for $2,545 for valid bonds of the State, matured and paid off by him »nd returned to the executive department as vouchers. The commissioners ot the W. <fe A R. R. are busily engaged in preparing a report ot their work in assessing the valuation of the property ot the road r< Governor Gordon July. A supplementary report will be presented to the General Assem bly when it meets. The sur¬ veyor, R R Reneau, is now en¬ gaged in surveying the proper¬ ty of the load at the towns betweeen Atlanta and Chatta¬ nooga. The Ministers and Deacons’ Meeting and Sunday School Convention of the Middle Cher¬ okee Association, will meet with the Baptist church at Tun ncl Hill, Whitfield county, Ga., on Friday before the 5th Sab¬ bath in July, 1888. The mortuary report tor tbe city of Atlanta last month shows the total number ot deaths to be 131, whites 56, colored 75. Last May the to¬ tal number of deaths was 151, which shows a decrease this year of twenty. The Manly Manufacturing Company tuineo on steam and began work last Monday. They already have orders enough to keep them busy for the greatei part of the summer.—Dalton Citizen, 7th inst. President Cleveland was re¬ nominated at' the convention at St. Louis last week, by accli¬ mation. Senator Thurman of Ohio was nominated as Vice President, The Georgia State Sunday School Association opened its fitteenth an mini session Wednesday morning and will remain in session two days. Mr. George Head has an¬ nounced himself as a candidate for the legislature from Whit¬ field county. Personal.
