7. Center Valley, 8. Free Hope
9. Holly Creek, 10. Harrison’s
Chapel.
When schools are formed in
procession they are to march to
the shed and take theire posi¬
tion in the followin order:
Spring Place on the right,
Pleasant Valley on the left, and
the other schools in the order
as they come above.
Services to he openeo by
singing Cononation by all the
schoos, led by Chorister, W S
porbin. Prayer by Rev. J R
Speck. Address of welcome
by Col. T. Starr, responded to
by Rev. Fletcher Walton.
Each school will he allowed
ten minutes in rotation to be
occupied as they may see prop
er.
All the schools of the county
whether they were represented
or not, are invited to be pres¬
ent and take part in the exer

The speacb of Mr. Martin
was one ol rare beauty and ex¬
cellence. It was grand in con¬
ception, eloquent in delivery
and was one of the most beau¬
tiful pieces of word painting
we ever listened to. lie cap¬
tured his atdience at once and
held the vast tlnong in l-apted
attention for thirty minutes,
He paid a glowing tribute to
womanhood in every phase of
human diversity, and closed
with a warm appeal to this So¬
ciety to always exert their tar
reaching influence for the inspi
ration ot human endeavo s.
The speech wa« a gem and die
ited universal praise. Many
congratulations greeted him on
its delivery tiom among the
Board of Visitors and com¬
mencement attendeuts.

Rev. Joe Jones, brother of
the great evangelist, Sam Jones,
created a great excitement in
Laurens, S. C. on the 11th. by
eloping with one ut Laurens’
lair daughters.
Mr. Jones had formed a lik¬
ing lor the young lady while
conducting a seres of meeting
at that place last summer. The
father of the young lady favor¬
ed the match but the mother
objected and threatened Mr.
Jones with ft shot gun it he
stoled her daughter; but the

married.

of the Augusta and Chatta¬
nooga Railroad company, was in
the city a day or two ago. He
informs us that arrangements
.are being made to secure an ear¬
ly completion of the road, and
that the subscribers and all oth¬
ers interested may rest assured
that the managemet of this im
poitant enterprise are as de¬
termined as ever to carry it out,
In a word the road is a necessi¬
ty ami will be built in the uear

convention which met in Cains
ville last week will hold its
