c. N. KING. S. B. CARTER. North Georgia Times ■3 CARfBH Pubihmcrt^ KING * THURSDAY JUNE *7, IS80. Spring Place fa.. Jane 24th '89 Mess. Editors:—Will you plea3e publ’ah the enclosed piece headed “ Treatment of Strangers”-, for the benefit of one among you who feels that the sentiments are true. M. Treatment of Strangers. Thoraasvillo Times. How should we treat stran¬ gers coming among us? Proba bly some one would treat them as strangers, and have nothing to do with strangers until you know something about them. But how is a stranger to he- come acquainted? Should he give a history of himself—or should he hasten to tell about himself-—when he or she comes into your town? It the party did, possibly the “home tolks” would not believe the report. If strangers attend your religi OUS meetings, they are possibly on ly stared at instead ot being cordially invited to take a part. happy Such, I am to say, is uot the cas-j iu all towns, lu some the people are sociable and friendly, and always ready to encourage the timid ami de¬ serving; while others are selfish and repellaut iu their manners A stranger might pass several years in their town aud not contract the acquaintance of more than three or four persons. People should be kind and friendly, especially to strangers. Chris¬ Such is the teaching of tianity. Eveu those who may have paid the penalty of wrong in reformatory institutions are ouv breathren of humanity. We may not think much a bout thuH« matters so long as wm remain at home with our friends; but if we ever happen to be a st. anger in a strange locality, we will have reason to realize how a stranger ought to be treated. All who have had trouble in getting Glasses to exactly Buit the eye, nre invited to call at E E Browns Dalton Ga. and have Mr, Brandon, the Optician, to test their eyes free of charge. POLITICAL. The fol'owiug clipping from a part ol the reported proceed¬ ings of the Dalton mass meeting as given in the Constitution, will make evident the reason tor Col. Tibbs’card to that pa¬ per which is published below. ‘•Colonel W. H. Tibbs, the inde pendent, candidate, after the masses assembled, declined to take part in the meeting. After so unani mous an expression of the people it is now cons idered doubtlul it he will make the race.” Dalton Ga. June 24th 1889. Editors Constitution: In Sundays Constitution there appeared an article pur¬ porting to give an account of the mass meeting held here on last Saturday to nominate a candidate for State Senator. That article represents me as having been on the ground and when I saw the crowd assem¬ bled declined to take part in tte meeting, ft is due to me and the truth, + ont to appear iu equally as prominent a place in your paper, that I was not in twenty miles of Daltou when the meeting took place and had not beet in the county for sev¬ eral days and only reached Dalton Satuiday evening at feCVlT) oeloc-k. The author of the commuhit&tvm says to me, that Lie did opt n iitethe arti¬ cle as published anu that wheu it refeis to me as printed that it is a fa’shood. H id the mee¬ ting beeu a democratic one I should have been in it but as it was not intended to be from the start I bad nothing to do with it in auy shape fo:m or fashion. As I understand it, the call for a meeting was pub¬ lished Wednesday evening late and was held Saturday and the call did uot restrict voting to democrats. The nomination of Paul B. Trammell, was second¬ ed by Fred Cox, a republican, as I am informed. I do uot feel bound by the action of mass meeting. W. H. Tibbs. Spring I*'ace June 25,1889. It appears that Ool. Newt Tram, melt, lather of Paul B Trammell, candidate for the Senate for the 43rd Eena'orial District, has been interviewed on the subject of tne release cr sale of the State Road, and that he has fixed the minimum lease at 30 thousand dollars per month and indicates that he wants a resolution passed to prohibit com¬ petition ol competing lines in order, we suppose, to favor a ring of the old tipe that we have ali heard so much about heretofore, Now we think that it is due the people ot the state of Georgia who* own this road to lease it for the best and highest price, that the road will bring, and let competition be open to the world and not re¬ strict the bidding to the favored few, who have already made thou¬ sands out of it under the present lej.se of 25,000 d filars per month. McICnights New Drug Snore, Dalton Ga. Dalton, Ga. June 24th 1889. To the Democratic Execu¬ tive Committee of Murray Co., Gentlemen: Pursuant to a call of the Democratic Execu¬ tive Committee ot Whitfield county, a mass meeting was held at the court-house Satur¬ day Jnue 22nd for the pu pose of nominating a democratic can¬ didate to fill out. the unexpired term of senator Field from the 43rd Senatorial District. On motion, the Hon. P. B. Trammell was unanimously chosen as the choice of Whit¬ field county. On motion, the chairman was instructed to communicate the result to the Executive committee of the counties of Murray and Gordon, and ask their endorsement of Whitfield’s choice, that the rotation system maybe cairied out in good faith as per party agreement in the Tilton convention of 1886. Respectfully, S. E. Berry Ckairm, Democratic Executive Committee of Whitfield Co. To the Voters of the 43d Senatorial District. Having been named by the Democratic mass meeting of Whitfield county, held at Dal¬ ton on the 22d iust, pursuant io a call by the county Demo¬ cratic Executive Committee as the nominee to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Hon. S, E. Field in the Georgia Senate. 1 feel that circumstancesproba bly vender a statement of my position relative to certain questions which are expected to come before the G eueral As¬ sembly. 1 am and have always been opposed to the sale of the .State road, or the allowance of tattennents to lh^ prt**- m .!«# 8f.s; and stand fully and thvi - ouyhly with the people as a gainst all monopolistic tendon* cies, or unlawful combinations for the suppression ot proper and healthful competition.
