THURSDAY JULY l«, IMS.
1013th Dist. G. M.
Edrs. Times:— Farmers in
this commnuity are very busy
since the rain ceased; in fact ev¬
erybody has bten so busy since
Friday that it is impossible to
get any news, Theie is notb
log reliable afloat concerning
the election, it seems. Wo
have heard from only two or
three of the neighboring dis
ti icts, of the result—outside of
this county we know next to
nothing. One report says, that
Tibbs is three hundred ahead
in Gordon, and another report
says, that Trammell got all but
seventy*117* in "Whitfield and
that he is now tearing up the
W & A. railroad—had it torn
up from Dalton to the Teunes
see line and the steel rails all
shipped to Atlanta by sun
down last Saturday. This looks
rather gloomy, but we go from
this neighborhood to Chatta¬
nooga via Cohutta Junction, so
it will not hurt us materially
any way; then there is a good
turnpike road across the moun¬
tain and they sell by the galon
just beyond tho toll gate. Well,
whe ever is defeated can say
that his friends were too busy
in the cotton fields to go to the
election, and that if the election
had been postponed until after
crops were laid by the result
would have been different, per
haps.
WiM the Times please give
us a correct statement of the
affair, more especially of the
district vote in Murray. We
will guess at the balance, or
wait till we get the Constitu¬
tion,
It is reported that C L Ter¬
ry fainted last Saturday eve¬
ning in or near the field and had
to be hauled to the bouse; and
also that E A F arnest is thteat
ened with paralysis.

Woe to the young uian, who
hopes to make money as a book

so tew persons appreciate. But
boys, read the newspapers and
it you do not find them as in¬

should be, remember that they

On kst Sunday night Judge
Liuch, with 4 pautK-ls of jurors
scoured our community, look¬
ing for John and Charley Guy,
two brothers, but tailed to find
them, and wbiped two white
boys and some colored women
tor harboring the boys. It is
believed that John Guy killed
his wife m Pickens county fast
year, and there are several mi¬
nor charges against Charlie. It
is said, that there was perfect
order maintained while Judge
lunch gave his orde s.
Well what Judge Milner
fails to do, Judge Linch will at¬
tend to. Good crops, good
health and good order are so
nice.

A Georgia gentleman who
has tried it vouches for this
story. Taking a gallon jug of
whiskey he passed a string
through its cork, which cord
dropped to the bottom of the
ju f. The twine was then in¬
troduced mt j a watermelon
vine by slitting the vine, and
the vine permitted to produce
only two melons. When the
melons were matured they
were served at a private bar¬
becue to six gentlemen. The
effect was astonishing. The
gallon of whiskey had got in its
work. Not a drop of liquor
remained in the jug when the
melons we*e ripe.—Bx.
