It was our pleasure to ride with him, in company with Mr. Frank Noland, Wednesday eve¬ ning. to the home of Col. bam Carter, where he went to recall many scenes of Ins boyhood days; prominent among which was the “ old oak tree” near the Col's gate, also the, “ rock spriDg” with its hundred or more - little “fishes” playing therein. Mr. Boykin said it had been 43 y ars since he bad seen the place, lie was much disapointed, in that he did not get to see the Col., as he was away, on some other portion of the large plantation, at the time of the short visit—for we had to return to 351.
