The Alliancemen of Murray,
Whitfield and Gordon counties,
met in Dalton on last Monday to
get the new work of the order.
Mr. Daniel Willis 13 contempla¬
ting putting up a saw mill about
two miles east ot town.

the mountains the past season have
done well.
Our fellow townsman. Col. J J
Bates, who is the athlete of North
Ga , and U. S. deputy marshal, John
Knox, of Oglethorpe county, wres¬
tled in Atlanta on Wednesday of
last week, for the championship of
Georgia and a stake of $250. First
fall was given to Mr Knox, second
to Mr- Bates and third was a “dog
fall” and the referees decided the
match a draw. The gentlemen are
not satisfied, so will have it over
on next Tuesday, at Concordia Hall
in Atlanta with $1,000 aside. Ad
mitance will be $1. We hope
Judge will take the cake.

A little child of Mrs. William
Smith, who is at the home of her
father, Mr. E L Long, near town,
died on last Sunday night.

and by some means had fallen, and
when the men overtook him, they

Mr. Nehimiah Stanford of Su¬
mach, one of the oldest citizens ot
the county crossed over tbe liver
ot death on last Friday. He had
been greatly offlicied for several
years and no one knew what his
sufferings had keen He was well
known throughont the Northern
portion of the county and was a
man who kept himself posted on
the governmental offairs ot his
country, and was always ready. to
impart knowledge, until feeble
health deprived him ot this pleas
ure The compunion of Mi'- Htah
lord preceded him to the grave
but a few months.
Last Saturday, the 2nd instant
was the birth day of Col. William
Luffiuan. On that day he readied
his three score years and ten. The
day was celebrated in a .quiet but
enjoyable way at the Colonel's res¬
idence near town. A sumptuous
dinner, onch only as Mrs. L can
prepare, was served to a few invited
friends and the occasion was a rao^t
enjoyable one. It is always inter¬
esting a ml pleasant to be with the
Colonel and hear him in his own
inimitable way rtcoont, the many
and varied phases cf life tui ought
which he has passed and the storms
ami difficulties he h«s overcome*
tt 0 are glad that now in his old age.
he is comfortably settled in his new
home, with an excellent and com¬
panionable wd'e. where he con spoud
in happiness his remaining years.
Few men are bold in high* r esteem,
whereever he is known, than Col.
Lnffman. He has filled many pla¬
ces ot trust and honor and always
with credit to himself and satisfac¬
tion to his friends. May he yet
live to see many more birth days

John Evans, an old Murray boy,
is located in Dalton, opposite Kel¬
lers, and is keeping a first class
restaurant, and asks the Murray
