O. N. KING. 8. B. CARTER. North Georgia Times KINO <fc CARTER PublUuer*. THURSDAY FEBRUARY 13, 1890. Industry and Economy in Farming. f*o. -1. In order to start the ‘’ball to rolling.’’ I begin with this 8 se¬ ries of Short articles, which will be continued for a time’ by your permission, under the a bovfe caption. The above should be regarded by all far¬ mers, as a sQ-bj'ect of very great importance—one worthy our caret ul- consUnuation. Farmers must be “industri¬ ous” it they w'ould succeed. Farming is a profession; as is every other legitimate calling or occupation of life;—aye more, ft is that to which all others'. Should succumb, for, surely, it is that upon which all others must depend. Farmers, tbeu, need to be ed>» ucated up to a higher standard iu the science of their “profes¬ sion,” in order that they may know wben and how to do >yhatever they may undertake —knowing, however, in the first place what to do—, so as to produce the greatest results as a reward far their time and labor. And furthetmore, view¬ ing the present situation of most of farmers(f) throughout our section of country, we will, as such, be necessarily compell¬ ed to “economize” a great deal mpre than we have been doing. To be as industrious as a far¬ mer should be, to be successful, it requires 'nearly, if not quite, all of ones time i\ud attention —winter ns well ns summer. . We conclude, then, that the blending of “Industry” and . “Economy” with a real knowl¬ edge of what to do, how to do and when to do, is to succeed ip farming. B. F. B. (to be continued.) HOLLY CREEK RIPPLES Feby. 10, ‘90. Mr. It C. Jones lias moved to Mr. Dixon's place near the hue of Gord >p. Grandma aud Miss Rosie Morrison have moved into the house lately vacated by Mr. Clay Jones. A mad dog passed through this neighborhood last week, \iiting several dogs, a few of which have been killed; but it is feard that the raging dog has not yet been killed. , The recent outragesg'eported as lmv.jrig beefi committed by the White Caps in this county have created considerable sen¬ sation and consequently a great Jeal of talk iu this as well as other parts of Murray. It is said that several of the boys formed g regular combine against whisky Saturday at the court of th's district—by killing all of it that they were able-—and consequently times were quite lively down there. Win. M. Morgan. Dots from Carter's. Warm weather over and rpin has come-—a few more hogs to kill yet. Well I am some what ashamed to say, that we have no school this winter at Flat Rock, as we have no teacher. A good teacher could get the situation. Well tte brother masons and alliance may resolve and resolve again, but when Judge Linch and his meetings resolve once he will put down these outrageous crimes for Ins mis¬ sion, we understand is to assist in maintaining law and order, and to stop such depredations; and if Judge Milner and Col. F ite can't find out who these rude phaps are, I iecon Liuch can for it seems that he has the “All seeing eye.” Road working now in order. The popipost, heaps are mau ly this winter, and this is the key to the future prosperity of our country. Many thanks for repairs on Holly creek bridge, but we need a bridge across the river at Carters, aa the channel is getting deeper in the ford and shortly the county will have to give ns a bridge or terry boat.
