Dear Times:
To an old Murray boy ir. tbe
dietant west, the Times is a wel¬
come weekly visitor. The issue of
•Tan 8th which has just been re
ceived, is especially interesting
The sad intelligence of Mr Mark
Leonard's death, cal's vividly to
uty mind ttio first time I ever
saw him. I was then an applicant
for a primary school at Ft Moun¬
tain and he was tbe second man to
sign my article, (Mr C N Vance
baing the first) and after this , we
became warm friends. His chil¬
dren have rny warmest sympathies
in this their darkest hour.
And Sam‘1 Hinoher is elected
Clerk? Let roe longratulrto you,
old school mate, on your success¬
ful election over so many distin¬
guished opponents, all of whom
are personal fiminis of mine, ud 1
over whoso succea I could as
easily rejoice as I can over yours.
I meet with a g ost many Geor¬
gians out here, and it is quite a
pleasure to see so many of them
iii prominent positions of trust.
In fact, I believe it is generally
conceded that Georgians rre ns
current in Texas as—well, tolerable
good money. Some bills are never
questioned, while ottiers arc sus¬
pected ot having ihe corners oft;
but you know how that is, Messrs
Editors. Will you please send
me the last copy cl the Times, be¬
fore Christmas? 1
I will give my old county paper
an occasional letter. A. L W.
Last year Georgia outstripped
all her sister stales in railroad
building, and the prospect ie that
this yoar‘8 record will be hardly

ns the engineers and
can do their work in spite of the
money scarcity, and like activity
is reported from other sections of
the state. From Augusta comes
the statement that the Augusta
and West Florida road is cm its ieet
again and is to be pushed to com¬
pletion.—Ex.
