I’d like to see that boy Jamea. I don't
oare how big ho is. I’d show him that
ho can’t go on setting good examples to
innocent l>oys without suffering as he

keep one for myself as a reward for my
good conduct. Only I made up my
mind not to let anybody know about it
till after the pig should he grows up,

erous net!” for that’s what the peper
said James' act was.
The next day I went to Farmer Bmitli,
aud got him to give me a little pig for
nothing, only 1 agreed to help him weed
Ins garden all summer. It was a beau
tiful pig, about as big as our baby, only
it was a deal pmttiar, and its tail was
elegaui I wrapped it up in an old
shawl, and watched my chance and got
it up iuto my room, which is on the
third story. Then I took my trunk and

for air, and put the pig in it.

property, 918.980,000 would be needed

Chocouatb.—In preparing chocolate
for family use, ent off about two inches
of the cuke to one quart of Water ; stir
it first In 4 little cold water till it is soft,
then pour on the boiling water. After
it has boiled a short time, add a pint of
milk; boil up and serve; sweeten to
taste.
Suey Pudding, -—One eup of chopped
suet, two-thirds cup of molafifibs, otlb
cup of MV eel inilk, one enp of chopped
raisins, three cups of flour, one tea-
sp onful of soda, one teaspoonful of cin
namon, one-half nutmeg, steam one and
one-lialf hours. To be eaten with soi r
sauce.
A Nton Disk.—RcmuauU of boiled or
roast meat may be utilized by chopping
them with twice their quantity of breed,
seasoning with salt, popper and herbs,
moistening with eggs and a little melted
butter beaten together, nnd either
cooked in a loaf or in small oaket on *
griddle.
Potato Salad.—^take about Wit nM*
mealy, freshly-boiled potatoes; win
they are quite cool out theflk In thii
slices and plaoe thorn.in All
dish; add vinegar, pepper, salt and
olive-oil to taste; mix with a wooden
spoon; add a chopped onion and parsley;
also, if desired, odd capers.
To Cook BkkVrteak.—Blit the out
side, or fat part, say every four inches,
cutting through to the lean, which pre
vents contraction and increases the ten
derness, Have a bright fire and grid
iron hot before putting it on; turn over
to prevent burning. A steak an inch
and a half thick will be cooked in from
seven to ten minutes. Have somo melt
ed butter, with • good supply of pepper
and salt, and pour over tho steak just
beforo it goes to table. To fry, prepare
in same wny ; put a little butter or lard
in the pan or griddle and let it brown
before putting on the meal; book quick
ly, and, whether broiled, fried or roast
ed, if yon want it juicy and tender,
never salt until after it is cooked.
Corn Soup.—Cover the trimmings and
bones from the shoulder of veal with one
quart of oold water; add an onion, sliced,
a small carrot or part of one, and some
parsley. Simmer for two hoi.
