A MOVEMENT OF THE PEOPLE IN THE INTER L5T OF THE BIBLE It occurred in the days of Ezra, about 460 B. C. A gret concourse of people in Jerusalem and around about gathered i n a vacant space before the water gate, and called upon Earn to bring forth the Book of the Law of Moses. It was not a preacher’s movement, nor did it originutc with a body of critics and scientists. It is a pity thnt the critics, the s.centists and some preachers lead people away from, rather tha n to the Bible. It is ingratitu.'- L.r learning, to question, and repudiate the Bible because it is divine, and its author is the source of all knowledge. Fn Kara’;, time the "Book’ had no fixed place among the people Seventy years before, and back into th - c- motc history of the Jews, it did have an established nn.i undisputed place, and the people agjiin enthroned, d in Ezra’s time. Today the Bible as an inspired and : r°r- rnnt book is questioned among many Christian people Among Baut ts, in some places, the Bible is not the "rule of faith and practice” it iiRed to be declared with such finality Today, the fundamental truths are n I re parded fundamental. Recently a denominational ,>>p< i carried a n article, “Which New Testament?" It is said it a recent convention of Baptists ir. the North, one party defended a New Testament which has ‘God for its- author, Salvation for its end and V-r‘h without erro* for its matter, the other party said ihe Books werj not infallible in history and in matters if science, and not. wholly consistent, and therefore, not ultimately a: d as a whole inerrant in the fields of morals andreligion. "It is just, to say that tfiis opposition comes from those who claim the “modern mind duly equipped with new km wledge," and not from the common heart. We have an innumerable host of men and women in our churches they belong to the plain people, they live :n the hills and mountains, in cities and towns, they make up the greater part of our church membership, the; have the common heart and unspoiled life. They believe in the Bible, the inspired book of God. The great need of i nlay is u great “pentocast” from Heaven that would sweep down upon them and sweep them into line for ,<v ice. Interment was in Holly Springs cemetery. The fumily have the sympathy o ( all their friends. { NO DANGER The entrance of women into the business life of the country was given as a reason for the decadence of the home about two decades. It was held that women holding good positions would not marry and that homes pass out of existence, as would marriage and children. The facts have prven the theory wrong, as happens always wher the theory goes counter to nature. Now the coming of women suffrage is hcraled by some as the beginning of the end of marriage and child Fearng. The figures of the various bureaus of the states do not bear out anv such theory, nor will such figures ever be forthcoming Implanted deep in the human heart by the Creator is the instinct *o mate and reproduce the species. It is not only human attribute; it prevades all nature, both ani mal and vegetable Until nature has changed—and ii is unchangeable—the man and maid will wed and estf-.Hish homes. WHO PAYS FOR ADVERTISING? This que t'on has frequently been put to every sales man. Here's the answer. Adverti products NEVER sell at a higher price than unadvertised products. On the contrary, they usually sell for less This is entirely due to the larger volume of sales on an advertised product This larger volume which results in decreased factory costs is obtained only through adver tising. , Advertising increases the volume of sales, and every one knows that a bigger volume results in lower costs. Advertising not only causes lower manufacturing costs due to increased volume, but, also cause lower rolling cost *- si- M&jk, Every dealer knows that it takes less effort and energy on his part to move advertised products, than it does for him to move the unadvertised lines. This means lo rer selling costs and the ultimate consumer benefits thereby. It lakes less time to ell the advertised products, be cause the customer is ^>ld through the advertisement. Anothr thing, the customer knows that it is safer to buy advertised products, knowing that the manufactar: r is back of them and tht advertisement is his person'll in dorsement of the product. The people were sinners, they were living in open vio lation of the Sabbath, and the marriage laws. They were oppressing the poor and defending each other, but when touched by the power of the Lord, they became reverent in spirit, penitent in heart, and obedient in service. See bow loyally they stood for the wore! of God. They have done so since Ezra’s time and they will do so again. When tha people and they were Baptists, wantvsd tho right to worship according to the dictates of their c >n- iciences, that privilege was written into the Constitution of the United States. When the majority of the people of our nution wanted prohibition, the eighteenth om : J- inent became a part of the Constitution. It will remain unchanged so long as the common heart will have it so. We t-nlk about tb*> "ciime wave" that is sweeping over our land—it will continue so long as the people are bent on trying everything but religion. Failure is writ.Mg elf on all the devices of men and the next turn will be to God and the Bible. Then our courts will deal iu ti.i to criminal end citizn, then business will be guub><i by the Word o; God, and the Golden Rule will be law. Then social life wdl be shaped by the Bible, and superfieialisni and fads w ll give way to good judgment and morals. Then mortality and gentility will come again into th- ir own. When the vision of Isaiah 2:3: "And many n pi ■ shall go and say, Come ye, und let us go up to the moiir tain of the Lord," shall be a realization our Sut eay schools will oe full, and our Sanctuaries will not be neg lected. Now the few go, but the many turn away. Now the church he’ls call, the few respond, hut the multitudes turn away. Vvhat a missionary impetus the Zionw.rd movement ( f the people will create.
