Then’ loss on that occasion in prisoner., ivas 66 including one major Sc two sub altera officers—the number qf killed and wounded unknown, but supposed to be double our’s which was about 100 -in killed# wounded and prisoners. Our army continued on the ‘battle ground ’till next morning, and then retired to : a stronger position two mil*#’ nearer to ‘ New*Orleans. On the 27th December, the succeeded, by means of hot shot.< in blowing up the American armed schoo ner Caroline, which lay becalmed in the Mississippi.
