The “ Narrow Guage ” at Yonges
boro.
llic short narrow guage railroad,
from Yongesboro to tho Chewackla
linie works, Ims been substantially
built,,and presents a very trim and
M'ell proportioned appearance. The
guage is just three feet inside of
the rails, Ihe rails are much light
cr than the medium T iails on the
roads of common guage. but are
doukMlessdully * 8 capable of sus
taining the wear and tear oi theii
lighter rolling stock, as tho wide
guage tracks arc to bear their heav
lei loads. Jho cross ties, too, are
proportiouubly smaller. The bed,
considerably narrower
than those of tile wide guage, and
the-grades arc much heavier. The
longesbord r<) ad will u fiord a good
test of the capacity of engines to
make sjieed over such grades as are
claimed to he within their sur
mounting power over a narrow
track. At present the motive pow
er is n couple of mules part oi the
wav, and lor the remainder yf the
distance tnc car runs down grade
by its own momentum, the detach
ed mules following in a brisk trot
behind. W e believe that the
Yongesboro experiment will dem
onstratc the adaptability and eufti
ciency of the narrow guage for most
railroad routes in the South. Its
length is about three miles.— Col.

THE MOORE COTTON GIN.
EstaL>liSliedL In 1852.
Formerly at Double Wells.
ALSO, A GENUINE PATTERN OF
THE GRISWOLD GIN.
THE undersigned, having resumed the manufacture of the above Gin, preposes to make it
what it was betoie the war—The favorite of the South. Our work stands upon its mcr
its, and we think this a sufficient guarantee. We have secured the services of some of the
best machanical talent in the Not them shops, in addition to some of the best workmen from
the shop of the late Samuel Griswokld. Mr. Charles Gardner, who served eight years
apprenticeship under E. Carver & Cos., a. East Bridgewater. Mass., and who was employed
as Superintendent of the Double Wells shop, from the commencement of the manufacture es
the Moore Cotton Gin, until its suspension, is agaiu at his post, aud will give each Gin his
personal inspection before it leaves the shop.
In calliug the attention of planters to our Cot-Urn Gins, we desire that they should notice
the improvements that we offer, which are substantially as follows .
A PORTABLE ROLL BOX,
For obtaining any inclination of the Gin Rib or Grate, is nsed ; the object of which is to ira
prove in tlie quantity ginned, or lessen the quantity and improve the quality of liut. Also, to
gin damp or wet cotton ; to alter the picking or separating the lint from the seed—either to
take more lint off or less lint from the seed, as circumstances require. We use both the com
mon Roll Box and a Swinging Front. The latter is arranged to let out alt tlie seeds and hulls
in a moment, and is very easily managed. .
THE GIN BRUSH
We make, cannot be excelled by any hair brush used. The bristles arc all drawn in by a
cord, and the timber is all Selected from the best lumber, well reasoned ; aud every Brush
is made perfectly lire aid rat proof.
CYLINDER AND BRUSH BOXES
Are both oscillating and plkin. Can furnish cither, as nt -y be ordered. We line them with
tlie best babbit metul.
GIN SAWS.
We make a’l tbe saws that we use from tlie best English Cast Steel, and of any size that
may lie desired. We employ, to supei intend and manufacture our Saws, one of the best saw
makers iu the South ; and our machinery tor the manufacture of Gin Saws cauuot he excell
ed.
COTTON SEED CRUSHING MILL.
We are the only tuccessful manufacture is of this important, and usefnl invention—the Cot
ton Giu. with the Cotton Seed Crushing Mill attached. It will hardly be necessary here to
allude to the immense saving and economical use of crushed cotton'seed, as a manure. We
received a gold medal, as a premium, front the Fair of the Cotton Planter’s Convention, held
in Macon Ga., 1860, for the best Colton Seed Crushers attached to the Gin Stand, to crush tbe
seed as fast as it escapes from the Uoll We r.-fer to some of the many certificates that we
have on the subject.
TRIAL OE THE GINS.
We keep constantly on hand seed cotton, and every Gin is tried before it tl.c shop
old or new ones.
REPAIR OF GINS.
We have a complete assortment of the very best Cotton Machinery iu the country, and
make repairing of old Gins a specialty. Planters will do » ell to send in their old
have them made as good as m-w. at a innch less cost than anew Giu can be bought lor. Send
on vour orders and old Gins early.
We are also authorized by Messrs Findlay’s Sons to receive orders for Findlay &
