We hope, under di vine blessing, the good work will go on. New Cotton. — The first bale of new cotton, classing low md’g and weighing 590 lbs. was stored by Hood & Tiimhn, early yesterday morning. An hour or two after wards another bale, classing the same, was brought in by ltev. C. C. Martin and sold to Owen & Sealy at 19 cts. We understand that Mr. Martin preferred settling his store account to taking the money. . Owen & Sealy are lucky to have made the first collection. , Andrew Female College.— As will be seen, by a reference to our advertising columns, this popular institution will resume its on Sept. 16th. It needs no praise, at our hands —it has made its own reputation, but we can not refrain U’rom saying that, with Mr. Mc iSeliee at its head, supported by so g6ud a faculty, it is one of the best .* Female colleges in our country. . We learn that Capt. John Cr. Smith, President, and Mr. A. A. Walker, Treasurer, of the Building and Loan Association at Eufaula Ala. will be here on next Saturday morning, (to-morrow) to assist, by their explanations, our citizens in forming a similar Association in our city. It is a movement irt the right di rection and we hope everybody will turn out a-nd give them a hear ing. Wo notice in the Eufaula times of yesterday’s date that thirty fam ily" residences and four fine brick stores are now being built in that city, and many more in contempla tion ; such enterprise is largely ow ing to the aid of the B. § Loan Association. - The Cuthbert Appeal man de clines to undertake anything spicy during the hot weather. Does this, include mint? —Sav'd Adver tiser. Our absent editor takes mint in his, but we take ours straight j for Greely, we mean. Bask Ball. —The Independent Base Ball Club, of Montezuma, will be here again on Wednesday, the 28th inst., to play a match game with the Magnolias of this place. The la lies propose giving them a big basket dinner. Every body is expected to come, —with their baskets. We hope our citizens, generally, will turn out to welcome the Independents among us, and to assist in returning to them the many kind courtesies received, at their hands, by our Club a few days since. The game will be called at 71 o’- clock,- A. M., five inning? played before dinner and the remaining four afterwards. The day’s enter tainment will be closed by a grand ball at Powell’s Hall, to which all the ladies from town and surround - ing country are respectfully invited- Wc hope to see many visitors from our sister towns present, to enjoy the day and night. ■ Editor Appeal. —Allow me to en dorse your position in reference to the Ordinance prohibiting shooting within theCorp’rate limits of the city. I have* con versed’with several cit izens upon the subject and find them almost unanimously opposed to hav ing any change made in the Ordi nance, that will give a person* the privilege of shooting even on hia own premises. It is to be hoped that the City Council will not entail upon us so great a nuisance as wilj follow the repeal of this ordinance. Respectfully, Citizen. A young woman in New Orleans, handsome and bewitching, lately appl.ed to a lawyer to procure a di vorce from her husband on the ground thatsiic could do bettor. A Warning. Mr, Sneed, late of the Savannah Republican, who is now in Atlanta, souhets a note of warning to the people of Georgia, which is heard in time to secure safety in the next Legislature, if it is heeded. He warms the people of the State against what he believes to be a plot to force upon them the pay ment of these trandnlent bonds. Mill ons are involved} and the bondhold ers, or at least many of themintend to procure the payment of their claims without regard to the means employed. A desperate effort will be make to get control of the next Legislature, and, should- they fail in that then of the next or the next. Much is at stake, and they will not scruple to enter Georgia with their hundreds of thousands, and if pos siple subsidize her press and corrupt her people. There is reason to be lieve that an effort will be made in o;very county in the State to elect Representatives and Senators pledged to do their work and fas ten upon the impoverished people of Georgia, for generations to come thislinfamous and fraudulent claim. LetJiis then, look to our candidates Sea that none but pure and incor rutptable men shall be put in the field for the General Assembly, and that every attempt to bribe either the candidates shall be ex posed. That the attempt will be made, we have not a doubt. Fore warned, let th@ people in every part of tho State be prepared for the is sue.—Monrot Ddvcrtiser. Since October 25th, 1838, to Au gust 15th, 1872, tliero have been 4741 marriages liccenses issued by tbe Ordinary of Muscogee. The first marriage on record is that of Isaac Brail and Jane McKee, which occurred in 1838. A Heavy Jjank Robery.—The Third National Bank of Baltimore was entered and robbed last Sunday night, of a hundred thousand dol lars. It was entered in the old way through the division wall which sep erated tho hank from the next ten ement. A Card. Recognizing at all times the mutual obli gations of nil good citizens to aid in every good work of a public nature and for the public good—aud that the largest charily compatible wiih the home and family should be practiced by all who live iu overy community, tlie physicians of Ran dolph County have generally respond'd to all calls of sucii nature and expect to con- I tmne to do so. Objects of charity shall al ways have our services free. But there is a large cl.isss of men in the country who never pay and scent neverlothink-ofpayingamed ical bill : and yet, they could pay if they would. They pay their merchants and must in future pay us. For such men, bo they black or white, we will in future practice for the cash, or for produce, or for accepted orders. Freedmcn, from flic country, except where farming on their own responsibility, must bring a written order Irom their employer | when calling for medical services. To those men good and true, who have al ways paid us wc offer our services as of old. To prevent in future tho practice of cor lain men sending every year fdr anew phy sician and never paying the-old, we will keep what is known by merchants as a black roll that all physicians may know every such man in-the country. We stand pledged upon our honour to steadily adhere to the foregoing aud should any physician*in tho county violate these obligations, he will have violated the code of Medical Ethics and we shall treat him ac cordingly : W. This gratuitous vive voce advertising is better than all the paid-for puffing to which the owners of bogus bitters are obliged to resort. It lias a spontaneo is heartiness about it which j carries conviction to the mind of the auditor, j But it is a-well-known fact that the propri etors of the Plantation Bitters have never re ! Strong Testimony. Steubenville, Ouio, Sept. 4, 1871. Dr. Wm. H. Tutt: Dear Sir—l feel it a duty to you and to suffering humanity to make public the great merits ot your Ex tract Sarsaparilla and Queen's Delight.— For years I haVfe been a great sufferer, my general health broke down, aud I was af flicted with nervousness of the most terrible character, which was soon iollowed by an eruption all over the body, forming large ulcers in ‘some places, and attended with rheumatic pains. Tongue cannot describe my suffering; I was reduced almost to a skeleton, and had a perfect loathing of food I was attended by several physicians, who tendered me no relief. I despaired cf ever being well again ; but thanks tCf a kind Providence. I accidentally heard of yout medicine. I sent for halt a dozen bottles, and before 1 had taken three I began to feel better, my appetite improved, and" the rheu matic pains became less severe aud I could enjoy sleep. I have continued its use, and have taken eleven bottles, and believe I am a sound man again. The ulcers have all healed, my skin is smooth and healthy, and 1 have gaiued 22 pounds in weight. I believe my sickness resulted from a taint ofscrotula. I would earnestly recommend your com pound to my fellow sufferers. With deep gratitude to you, I am ever yoitr friend, JAS. FRaMIvLIN. The common phrase ap plied to this condition of the body is “gener al debility.” Now, general deoili y arises from, and inc'ndesa variety of ailments. The liver is more or less affected, the bowels are either constipated or too mucji Telaxed, the stomach but half performs the work o! di gestion, the appetite is poor, and the spirits depressed This is what is called general debility. It is a general disarrangement of all the physical functions, and requires asa rem. edy a medicine that will regulate them as Hosteltpr’s Stomach Bitters is specially ad apted to this purpose. Its general operation is not confined to a single organ. Ifthellver D affected, it restores its tone. If the stom ach is torpid, it regenerates it. If the nerves are tremulous and weak, It braces and re enforces them. If the mind, which ever sym pathizes with the body, is gloomy and des pondent, it relieves the dfficulty, aud soon brings the whole mechanism of the body into harmony with the laws of health. WE deem it proper to appeal directly to our fellow-citizens for their substan tial aid in honoring otir fallen Confederates, and henalltting those who were dependent up on them for maintenance and piotection. No one, we feel assured, will deem it intrusive iti us to do so. The cause commends itself to the patriotic sentiment of all our citizens. It brings freshly to our minds the sad but Cliival ric story of our noble sons fighting for man’s most sacred rights—country, honor, liberty and home. • We cannot, as far as we can se**, shed the light of oor work upon the impenetrable gloom of the grave. The spirits of our lost Confederates may see us or not ; but our in stincts make ns weep and grieve when death steals silently into our households and takes oiti loved oiks away. We honor them in their graves, and inscribe their virtues upou Mon nments. Out spirits and senses become im bued with the solemnities of death and our irreparable lossi Thus Ave feel when they fade and die of or dinary causes. Shall we feel the less when taking no heed of danger, courting it indeed in full health and manhood —they meet the en emies of their country and die in the effort to save their people from the oppressor’s wrong We still rise with the sun, pursue our call ings, enjoy life, and are blessed by a merciful Providence. They are in the gloom of their graves, having done for us all they conld in this lower world. Are they not entitled to our pity, our love, aud all the care we can take ol their fame ? Will it not be something to exhibit this to the worid \ Will we not respect and honor oiirselves in doing it ? Is it not necessary to present lhi 6 evidence of re spect and gratitude to the eyes and thoughts ottheyonng? What will the world say if we shall fail to do It? Some will not contribute —their motives are tin ir own; all cannot, but our prosper ous Merchants, Lawyers, Physicians, Plan ters, and thousands of otlieis who are tveli-to do in worldly affaire, will feel better w hen they shall till have aided iu this work of love and gratitude. All the followers of the Arabian Prophet cannot vieit his tomb; but the green tnrbam and Pilgrims who can, are held in higher esteeurwhen they return from Mecca. Ami «i 1 m«t. those be honored who shall aid iu this iiibuto to those who fell in our service and our cause ? Who is there that would not he pleased to have his name inscribed upon the list that will he on perpel j ual record in the archives of the Confederate Monumental Association? Will it not be emphatically a l.'oll of Honor ? All of us will soon sleep without a dream. Who can bear the thought that no one will care for or respect his memory when he is gone ? The fame of the gallant Confederate dead is in the cave and keeping of all our people.— What would he thought of him who would say i “ Let them sleep nucared for, 'unhon oreii and unsung ’ ” S'ale. Southern and personal pride would abhor the sentiment.
