To Make Boy Farmers. —Wq
wish all the farmers would heed
what the American Agriculturist
says: Induce the boys to take new
interest in the farm, in the imple
ments, in the stock ; tell him all
your plans, your successes and your
failures; give them the history of
your life and what you did, and
how you lived when a boy;, but
do not harp too much upon the
, degenerate character of young men
of the present age, praise them
when you can, and encourage them
.to do still better. Let them dress •
hp in the evening insted of sitting
down in their dirty •clothes in a
'dirty room. Provide plenty of
light. Thanks to kerosense, our
country homes can be as brilliantly
lighted as the gas-lit residences in
the city. Encourage the neighbors
to drop in evenings. r lalk agricul
ture rather than politics; speak of
the importance of large crops, of
stock, of liberal feeding, and
of the advantages of making ani
“mals feel coffdortable, rather than
'of tire hard times low prices and
•high Wages. Above all encourage
the boy to read good agricultural
papers. Get him some good agri
'cultural hook to study. Head with
him, and give him the benefit of
»your experience and criticism.—
SVluhi he has mastered this give
another. In our own case, we owe
our love of farming principally to,
the fact that our father told Us of
•every thing that was doiug on the
Ifarru * answering .all the questions
and encouraging rather than re
fusing our child-like desire of help
ing him to plow, to chop, to drain
; as well as tiring tho brush-beeps.
A Boston gentleman who could
hot waltze, offered a young lady
SI.OO if she would let him hug her
as much as the man who had just
waltzed with her. It was a good
olihr, and showed that money was
no object to him, but they pul him
out of the house so hard that his
eyes were quite black.

The ruin of most men dates from
some vacant hour. Occupation is
the armor of the soul. There is a
satirical poem in which the devil is
represented as fishing for men, and
fitting his bait to the taste aud bus
ifaess of his prey ; hut the idler, he
said, gave him no troublej as he bit
the naked hook.
