COVERING THE
NIGHT-BEATT: Stax
recording artist Carla Thomas
and her manager Charles
Brown are scheduled for a
series of meetings with
President William Tolbert of
Liberia, about the possibility
of Brown and Miss Thomas
organizing a fine arts
department of the African
nation’s government. Duo is
slated to meet with President
Tolbert in September.
The talks will come after
Miss Thomas completes her
headline appearance at Atlantic

Gail Fisher surprised the
town, her friends and even her
business associates by eloping
to Tijuana with Los Angeles
businessman Robert A. Walker.
Not until she left for a
combined business-honeymoon
to New York did she confide
about the wedding.
“This is the man I’ve been
looking for all of my life,” Gail
told me, who happens to be
the co-star of “Mannix”.
Incidentally, her new husband
just presented her with a
Schick Super II For Women
shaving system.
The fourth company of the
Broadway hit, “Don’t Bother
Me, I Can’t Cope”, is opening
in Toronto, June 14th. “It will
be our first foreign
production,” quips producer
Edward Padula. In addition to
Broadway, it is also a big
success in Chicago and Los
Angeles.
Big Rosey Grier has been
taking gourmet cooking
lessons, just in case someone
buys his new TV series. It
concerns an ex-football star
who turns into a gourmet chef.
So far, Rosey has mastered the
trickiness of the omelette, and
is now moving on to roasts. At
a recent house party , Rosey

“I was on diet after diet and
when I’d lose a few pounds, I’d
eat something fattening and
then I’d go back to my doctor
again. One day he said, “Look
don’t come back here again
until you get your head
together and decide you really
want to lose weight.”
“I was embarrassed, but
more embarrassed when I
looked into the mirror when
nobody was around. I‘m on the
diet and have lost 12 pounds. I
have a little food at lunch and
the rest after my shows when
I’m really hungry.
“I can hardly wait to go

I said to myself...now you’re
away from home. Dumpsey is
going to school. Forget about
tomorrow. I just received a gift
from her this past week...a
rock with a tall flower in it. It
was what she had selected
herself. And when she called
me...in the midst of
conversation-like a throw

“After she hung up I was

tried to decide which we enjoy
more... Della’s singing or Della’s
conversation. It’s a hard
decision.
Richard Roundtree is the
star of Shaft, the movie and
the new CBS-TV series, all
about a New York private eye.
So, shooting publicity pix in
front of he network’s
Hollywood studios, the photog
got the bright idea of bringing
in a helicopter for a little
action. Great.
Spectacular shots of the
spectacular athlete running
after and grabbing the ‘copter,
hanging in the air’. “I just
hope,” noted Roundtree, “that
no California palm trees show
up when the film is
developed.”
David Frost has pulled his
second romantic strikeout of
the year. Black singer Mary
Wilson of the Supremes is the
latest to turn the chill for
Frost. Bachelor Frost began
dating Miss Wilson on the
rebound from his ill-fated
romance with actress Diahann
Carroll.
But the word is now out
that Frost may have pressed
too hard on his dates with Miss
Wilson. “I enjoy David,” Miss
Wilson told me. “The truth is,
my heart belongs to Pedro
Riog, a young attorney who is
the son of the owner of the El
San Juan Hotel in Puerto
Rico.” Mary also told me that
he met Riog earlier this year
when the Supremes played the
hotel.

Beauty Hints
POSTURE
“She walks in beauty like the night
Os cloudless climes and starry skies” - Byron.
Good posture is an aid to health and is also pleasing to the eye.
Poor posture hampers free circulation of the blood to vital
organs, induces aches and pains and reduces vitality and stamina.
Somehow people never suspect that some of their worst aches
and pains may be caused by so simple a matter as the way they
carry themselves.
Good sitting, standing and walking habits are in themselves
posture exercises, but I’m now going to give you a little added
help. Good posture and walking depends upon being able to
control the movements of the body without any stiffening or
tightening of the muscles. Controled relaxation is the goal toward
which you should and must strive. To achieve this controlled
relaxation, the chest must be lifted, the weight must be lifted
from the waist, but the shoulders must be allowed to rest
naturally without tension. Just imagine you are bringing the spine
and the abdomen together, this idea prevents without strain the
sagging of the stomach muscles or the protrusion of the hips.
With the body in the alignment brought about by lifting the
waist and chest muscles, and bringing the spine and abdomen
together, it now becomes possible to walk with assurance and
grace.
